Jon and Kate Plus 8 Versus Octomom Verses the Duggers of 18 and Counting: When is Many Children Too Many?

Karen Barnes
Jon and Kate Plus 8, I don't even know where to begin with this one. Sextuplets with two other children as a reality show? That's the first part of all this craziness. Putting that many young children in front of the camera as much as they are is just insane. Now Jon and Kate are divorced, separated, getting back together, or something. The show has turned away from what it takes them to raise eight kids to their screwed up marriage.

With all the news surrounding Octomom having a set of octuplets bring her child count up to fourteen. Yet this mom who is living on state support with fourteen children is mad because of all the media attention she has received. What in the world did she think was going to happen? The news media and society thrives on drama and insanity like this.

I know octomom, Nadya Suleman, had all fourteen of her children through invetro, but the Duggars had them the old-fashioned way. The question for the Duggar's,"Don't you know what causes that?" Yes, that's the obvious question. Loving children is one thing, just how much love can you give that many children? That may be an easy answer for some and just as hard to answer for others.

I watched a few episodes of the TLC show 18 and Counting and wasn't all that impressed with it. The only part of this show I ever watched was when they were building their new house for the seventeen children and the one on the way season or whatever it was. Now the Duggars found they are having child number nineteen. When is time to say enough is enough?

I know Mrs. Duggar said she would have children as long as she was able to, but just how much attention and love can she give this amount of children? Is it healthy for her, her husband, and the rest of the kids?

Between these three couples, they have a total of forty-one kids after the latest addition to the Duggar family is born. That's an average of 6.84 kids per adult. 6.84 kids sounds a bit crazy doesn't it?

I've heard "insanity breeds contempt." Jon and Kate, Nadya Suleman, and the Duggars makes me wonder if their insanity is breeding contempt for life itself. I do wonder if any of these six adults have seriously considered what would happen to their children if they were to suddenly die before all their children were able to take care of themselves.

Even with if the economy wasn't as it is today, could Jon and Kate, Suleman, and the Duggars support their kids without the news media, state support, the free stuff they have received, and their reality shows? More than likely not.

I agree. In these cases they seem to only be doing it as an "income".Particularly the Duggars...never a cross word heard, and ALL familys with kids have arguments and spats amongst the kids. They never show the parents working, but always the kids doing their chores and working around the house. And the mother herself said that when a child is "old enough" they are assigned a "buddy" to all but raise. Isn't that the parents job? They show it to be SO easy and constantly getting given free things. Kind of like "if you have a bunch of kids, life will be easy!" Never have I heard any of the Duggar kids EVER say what they want to be when they grow up or what they would like to challenge in life. I love kids, but I just don't see that that many is the responsible way to go. She says she will have as many as God alows her have. God "allows" us alot of abilities..doesn't mean we have to act on them. For instanc, he gave us all the ability to be cruel.. but it doesn't mean we have to be crue

I agree. We should stop glamorizing these giant families in the media; it sends a bad message to young people who watch these shows.

Awesome article. I've been looking to promote an article criticizing about Jon & Kate in my forum, and I'm glad I came across yours. As the old saying goes, money and fame are two of the most dangerous addictions for mankind.
