Jon and Kate Plus 8: Why so Many People Love This Show

Sarah Rachel
Jon and Kate plus 8 is a hit reality TV show on TLC / Discovery Health starring the Gosselin family. Jon and Kate have 5 girls and 3 boys. The twins Cara and Madelyn are 7. The sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel are all 3 years old. This show first intrigued me because I am the oldest of 8 children. There were many challenges and exciting things about growing up in such a large family, and I instantly related to the Gosselins. In my family we were all spaced 2 or more years apart, while the majority of the kids in the Gosselin family are the same age, which is part of what makes the show so entertaining.

The neat thing about this family is that they are truly genuine. Yes some people do get upset because Kate is very outspoken while Jon sits back and takes it. However, this is what makes her so interesting, and it may be one of the reasons why the show has such high ratings. She doesn't try to be fake to please everyone and they are who they are. Many people seem to make Kate out to be the mean aggressive wife, but if you watch more of the episodes you will see that Jon isn't completely innocent either. He has also said his share of rude remarks. I don't know of anyone with a perfect marriage. Regardless of these personality conflicts between the two, they still seem to express a great deal of love and devotion for each other, and their children.

Some reasons why people love this show

There are so many things to love about Jon and Kate plus 8. They cherish the time with their children. Recently I saw an episode where each child was given a special day to do their favorite thing. Hannah in particular was so cute when she was able to go with her parents to ride on a pony for the first time. She was so excited, but then when she got there she froze up. She needed the reassurance from her parents that everything was going to be okay.

People also like to watch because they treat each child like an individual which is not always common in large families. Each child has their special name tag and place to sit during holidays, and they have their own special toys. Growing up in my family, we always had to share and we were usually treated like a group. I really admire Jon and Kate because they seem to put forth the extra effort to treat each child as though they are special in their own way. This takes time and effort and they do it well.

They are also honest and up front with their children. They discipline them very effectively which is another way they show how much they love them. Discipline is very important, and the effort the goes into discipline can be hard at times, but it is essential because it teaches the children how to be good human beings. The fact that they are so consistent is wonderful. My mother always said that you only get results with consistency.

There are so many things to love about this show, but these are just a few of the main reasons why I love it. It takes hard work and dedication to raise a large family. In my view Jon and Kate have done a wonderful job, and I hope there will be many more fun filled episodes to watch over the years.
