Jon and Kate Plus Eight Bodyguard Revealed

The Identity of the Mysterious "Mr. Gray" is Revealed

TLC's headline reality series Jon and Kate Plus Eight has more stars than just Jon and Kate Gosselin and their eight children. Attentive viewers have noticed a bodyguard (dubbed "Mr. Gray" online) who shadows the family when they go out.

The bodyguard is seen at virtually all of Kate's frequent talks and book-signings. I saw him personally when I heard Kate speak at the Indianapolis Home Show February 4, 2009. At that appearance, his main function appeared to be standing nearby Kate while monitoring the crowds around her closely. He turned away local media cameras which had come to film, and I also witnessed him approach two people in the audience who wanted to record Kate, and stopped them from doing that.

Who IS this mysterious man in gray? Now we know. According to Prudential Associates (which deals in risk management and security consulting), his name is Steve Neild. He is an executive vice president of the company, and served with the New Zealand Police for 19 years. According to Prudential's website, Neild led the special operations section, focusing on counter-terrorism and dignitary protection.

Wow, you may be thinking (as I did) - does Kate Gosselin command the degree of protection afforded by a counter-terrorism expert? Apparently the Discovery Channel thinks she does, as it is listed as a Prudential client (the Discovery Channel is a sister network to TLC which produces Jon and Kate).

Want more information about Neild? He worked in leadership roles on security planning for the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, as well as for the Royal Families of Britain, Thailand, and Brunei. He has worked for Bill Clinton and other heads of state.

One can't help wishing to peek inside Mr. Neild's mind to know what he thinks of his current job as bodyguard to TV's most famous mom.

I guess the Discovery Channel has a lot of money riding on Kate. Then again, maybe they haven't considered "Jon and 8 Minus Kate". j/k... dark humor...
