Jon and Kate Plus Eight: A Sham?
A 7/28/08 National Enquirer Article is Highly Critical of This Popular Family
So, I was dismayed to read a current National Enquirer article "exposing" the family as a "sham". Now I know, I know - it's the NATIONAL ENQUIRER. I'm skeptical too. However, it often seems to me that articles I read in the tabloids do have a kernel of truth to them. What's alleged?
1. Although the Gosselins portray themselves on TV as struggling financially, they're really not. They get many donations from various sources (this is not news to anyone who watches the show; almost every week the Gosselins are seen benefiting from one donation or another). The article also claims the Gosselins have a personal organic chef, nannies, housekeepers, a gardener, and a personal assistant to run errands. Hmmm ... well, again from the show we've seen that volunteers come and help with laundry, so I'm not sure if that counts as a housekeeper or not. I would assume that when TLC is filming, there would be "assistants" who would help in various ways. I'm not sure if that is what is referred to or not.
2. The Gosselins have a wealthy family member who supports them. I have no idea who this might be. If you watch the show, you know that Jon and Kate's parents are not involved in the Gosselins' daily lives.
3. The Gosselin children's Aunt Jodi was forced to leave the show after TLC offered her a salary, and Kate objected to her being paid. Hmmm, this sounds bad, I'll admit. I have really enjoyed seeing Aunt Jodi on the show. She does seem to interact well with the children, and in a different way from Kate. I enjoy seeing BOTH Kate and Jodi interact with the children, so I would miss seeing Jodi. And come to think of it, I have not seen her on recent episodes. A source for this assertion might be the blog referenced in the "resources" of my article, Truth Breeds Hatred. The blog author purports to be Aunt Jodi's sister Julie, and she gives an interesting slant on the relationship between Jodi and Kate.
So, is the article true? You be the judge. I feel that it has some valid points, namely that while the Gosselins were struggling when their children were born, things have improved significantly for them financially since their show has taken off. Also, according to Julie's blog, the assertion about Jodi being offered compensation and having that denied by Kate seems to be true.
Despite the negatives that may exist concerning the family, I still love watching them and will be curious to see how the Gosselins handle their increasing fame and fortune. Stay tuned!

Post a CommentThe children are gorgeous; however, the mother appears to be a control freak and constantly embarrasses her husband on TV and in public. Since the separation, she should go back to work as a nurse and be there for her children like real people do. I know they get a lot of stuff free and in the end those children are going to grow up believing they only have to become a reality show to survive this will only teach them nothing about work ethics and reali life struggles. God bless them all and I keep them in prayer for children should be children and not constantly being televised.
your right it was veary sad to see the kids on there 5th b-day%252C all the kids do want is both there parents togeher. they never would have thaought that there parents would split up or get a divorce. they were probbly confused on why there parents werent sitting together that day.
I put it on mute when kate is talking,she has become self imposed,greedy and abusive.She is not in it for the kids she is in it for herself and she rules the show ect. aunt jodi...the way she treated Jon was terrible,she seemed unable to handle the kids if they had a melt down so it was often heard...JONNNN!!!as is seen in photo's of her slapping one of the wee one's...guess that is what happens when Jon isn't around to slap or Emerald Greene where she hit him not once but twice..LADY...that is abuse...she distroyed the show with her attitude..
I think it should be off the air because it is not letting the kids grow up in a child's world. Plus, in the Bible it does teach us that the man is the head of the woman and this has never been the case here. It was bad seeing the bad looks from the couple pointed towards the other. I has to hurt the kids.
The divorce will not hurt the 2 adults as much as it hurts the kids involved. I know this because of my own kids. Another man or woman will never be the parent (no matter how nice the person is) I have seen how my own kids were hurt and the kids think it is their fault even if they don't say so.
I think where there is smoke there is fire. I think they have their own money through endorsements, TLC, her recent book earnings, and now that some of the smoke is clearing we are seeing that Jon seems to gone off the deep end with various bad behaviours. We tend to feel sorry for Kate because of course her moral behavior is not in question. Jon's moral behaviour is in question and making alleged headlines. I think he has had a breakdown of a sort and all of the invasion of TLC, Kate's badgering, paparazzi following all of them has parciptated the acting out. The kids, well, they will pay for all of these shananagans of the their parents. I agree the show should be taken off the air, because it has now become a train wreck. It is depressing to see people who clearly loathe each other be in the same room. Jon has gone a wondering, and Kate wonders why?

What a waste of time.
My heart goes out to jon and kate, Their life is not their own. No one judges us when we have disagreement. The fact that Jon does like make alot of family decisions does not make kate a witch. eight kids would be hard for anyone. this does not mean they are not loved, but parents get tired and everyone one has bad days even weeks. Thanks for being brave enough to share your family with us and continue to love each other and things will get better.
I have watched this show from the first documentary and am saddened by what has happened to this family. Jon and Kate pleases look at what is important to both of you,look at those 8 beatiful faces and get real whatever that may mean but stop the star studded mess and put those kids back on the top of the list of whats important we all make mistakes some can be fixed and some cant but the whole thing being played out in media and now on your show it wrong for those kids especially Cara and Maddy do the right thing and quit the show at least until you get it figured out dont keep draging those poor kids through this I for one loved your show but now think it is a disgrace and can no longer watch this hope you can get back
to what you started out as becouse I for one belived you were real at one time but no longer feel that way and feel very sorry for your kids especially the twins
I wanted to cry watching the season premier.. I feel bad for Kate and the kids. POOR Jon he doesn't like the fact that his wife is more popular than he is. Get Over Yourself.. Yes I agree that Kate is a little to demanding on Jon and the kids.. Kids make messes that's their job. I can relate to Kate.. my kids would only eat chips and beef jerky if I wasn't here to add veggies, fruit and a little varity in their lives. Just remember money isn't everything you need, God, Family and Friends to be complete.
I was in tears at the end of the 5th B-day show...that was painful. I don't care to watch this beautiful family disinegrate any longer...my heart breaks for those kids...all they want are two parents. nothing more.
