Jon Stewart on John McCain and Recycling

How Many Times Has John McCain Given His Speech?

Shirlene Alusa-Brown
Maverick. According to the dictionary, the definition of maverick is '[noun] someone who exhibits great independence in thought and action'. Hmmm. That bears some evaluating. John McCain has stated on several occasions that he is going to bring change to the Whitehouse (never mind that his running mate is pulling Cheney-like moves with problems with her former brother-in-law/Troopergate, the per-diem-while-she-was-at-home issue, and the fact that even though the predominantly Republican panel found that she had been unethical, she somehow missed that part and claimed repeatedly that she was cleared of ALL wrongdoing).

He has said repeatedly that he is a maverick (nothing new there), and will bring change to the campaign. He's brought change alright! The McCain platform is attracting some of the most radical, ignorant, racists (I honestly think that racism requires a great deal of ignorance to function--and that goes for all races and colors) with frightening negative intensity. I am well aware that racism exists. I have had people tell me as I hold the door open for them that they don't want a N****r to do ANYTHING for them. I have had a person tell me that he wants his food served by white people and no n****r should serve touch his food in any part of the process. I had a woman tell me she wanted a person to serve her, and I didn't qualify. When people want to arouse the fears that are latent in folk who already have biases that defy intelligence, they should remember that it will come back to bite them. McCain regained some of my respect by trying to rectify some of the misinformation his campaign has been shelling out like candy to children.

John McCain has also begun to sound like a broken record. Ever wonder why his speeches sound the same? It is because they are the same! Jon Stewart put two speeches of McCain's next to each other and they were the same....verbatim. Why recycle speeches? With all your experience in government you should be able to talk about just about anything without repeating yourself over and over again. Be a maverick--talk off the cuff.

I really used to like McCain when he was his own man, but I fear that in his bid to get into the Whitehouse he has sold his integrity for the 'great' prize. Unfortunately it may cost him his reputation as a maverick, and that would probably hurt him more than anything else. Let us see what the next debate produces. In the meantime, enjoy this Jon Stewart video and make an informed, intelligent decision about who you should vote for. Good luck all, and God bless everyone. Also enjoy the video below.
