Jon Voight Calls to End 'Obama Oppression' at GOP Dinner

Robert Dougherty
Jon Voight is an unlikely conservative, given that Jon Voight won an Oscar by working with Jane Fonda, once played FDR, and that Jon Voight's daughter is Angelina Jolie. But Jon Voight has built up his conservative credentials, even in the midst of the Hollywood elite. Voight further tried to rally the GOP at a fundraiser dinner in Washington last night. Although the Republicans didn't raise the funds they wanted, Jon Voight did his part by raising blogosphere buzz, by totally rebuking the Obama administration.

Though the Republicans tried in vain to heal the recent divides in the party, Jon Voight had no such words of reconciliation in regards to the President. As host of the dinner, Voight spoke against the "Obama oppression" and called the President a "false prophet" among other things.

Republicans and conservative pundits love to mock Obama for being "The Messiah" and for supposedly building a God-like cult of liberals. They also love to knock him for being weak, as Voight did.

Voight called to "free the nation from this Obama oppression." However, the audience was reported to only have given Voight mild applause for this line. Perhaps the GOP audience is being more careful in trying not to agree so much with lines like Voight's, for the time being at least.

Jon Voight already penned a Washington Times editorial against Obama during the campaign last year. His acting career is also getting more conservative, as he starred in the conservative comedy An American Carol last year, and guest starred as the main villain of 24 this past season - ironically, playing a evil conservative military contractor.

As Voight moves even farther away from the Hollywood left - which estranged daughter Angelina Jolie is a part of - the Republicans needed Voight's buzz to overshadow a low haul of $14.5 million from this year's dinner.

The event was further overshadowed by controversy over Sarah Palin's availability. For weeks, it was questionable as to whether Palin would be invited to speak, after being replaced by Newt Gingrich as the keynote speaker.

Gingrich even used a line from Jon Voight himself, from when he played, of all people, FDR in Pearl Harbor. He quoted from the scene where Voight's FDR said "Do not tell me it can't be done" when FDR stood on his own two feet to inspire his generals - although it was a scene that never actually happened in real life.

Republicans are being less reluctant to put Palin in the spotlight, and less reluctant to applaud calls to arms from Jon Voight. But even that didn't seem to help the dinner a great deal.

Jon Voight is a pedophile. His daughter Angelina Jolie said that he molested her when she was a young child, and that this was the reason that they have no relationship today. She also indicated that he was a vile racist who went on a rampage when he learned from a friend of hers that she had adopted a black child. She also indicated that he was embarrassed to tell his friends about his "black grandchild", and was taking out his hatred and frustrations on Obama, who also happens to be black. She said that his "attack" on Obama had very little to do with politics, but a whole lot to do with his "black grandchild". He is a mentally deranged, potentially violent, inbred racist, scumbag pedophile, as well as his supporters that are commenting on this web site!!!

I'm glad we have free speech, it allows those of us with working minds to see who is without.

That's not irony, Robert. Jon Voight playing a neocon nutjob hellbent on insurrection in a deluded attempt to prove his love of country and save it from liberal or apathetic governance was more than appropriate. That being said, Jon Voight is still a great actor and I will continue to watch his movies, regardless of his extreme views. I watch Sean Penn's movies as well, although I find him a bit extreme in the other direction. The Republicans had best begin getting behind Tim Pawlenty or Bobby Jindal. This swing to the far right is doing them no good. Makes them look like immovable fascists, pushing failure and unwilling to compromise or help...

Voight isn't that far off the mark. Our country is a Republic that is meant to protect individual liberty. It is not a democracy geared towards forcing equality - the two are very different things and our founding fathers wrote our constitution to protect against the very thing that is happening in Washington. Obama is by no means the first but he is surely the worst. The more he spends the more taxes you and I will see in the future. The federal government has grown too large and the American people need to re-read their constitution. It is meant to be taken literally.

One of very few intelligent Hollywood actors.

I'd really love to see evidence of how Jon Voight is being oppressed by our president.

If he feels so strongly about the matter, I urge him to become the nation's newest ex-patriot. Maybe he can find a less "oppressive" country somewhere in Europe- I'm sure he has the money for it.

I am going through my movies tonight and throwing away anything with Jon Voight in it. I will never rent, buy, or see a movie with Jon Voight in it. Instead I will take that money and donate it to the DNC. So go ahead GOP keep on hating America, hope for failure, fight for big business... and keep stepping on the little man. I on the other hand will support reform, the RIGHT to health care, saving the planet, and fixing this mess so that our children have a chance in this mess YOU created over the last 8 years.

Obviously Newt and Voight and Palin and the entire GOP care nothing about the country. They care only about carrying out angry hatchet attacks on the President. Obama is one of the very few politicians in the 'business' (it's supposed to be service) with any integrity. Voight is an actor. He is of the ilk of that last character who used to be president of the NRA - I forgot his name and we will soon forget Voight's. He's a creep.

Very interesting I have not followed Voight but this is sure a new side of him for me to see.
