The up-beat song "Marissa Smiles" captures the soulful musical styles of Clark as he harmoniously serenades listeners while singing a beautiful story of adoration and infatuation for a girl named 'Marissa'. While Clark sings the lyrics, "...When she smiles/She takes my breath away/It brightens up my day/when Marissa smiles at me.../", background vocalists Laura Creamer and Matthew Clark provide the personal touches behind the music while creating a 'heavenly' feel behind the song's lyrics.
Clark sings of intimate feelings through the sentimental Guitar-driven ballad "I'll Be There". Throughout the song, listeners are taken on a magical journey of love as Clark sings, "...Let your heart come out and play/We will run to a place I know/And we'll be free/Just take my hand and we will go.../" The song features a special appearances by various musicians including Los Angeles, California-based instrumentalists, The Section Quartet. With the beautiful arrangement of instruments including the Cello, Violin, and Strings, "I'll Be There" is able to transform into an up-lifting and endearing melody for Clark.
Clark is able to reflect on his own fast-paced musical career on the track "Can't Slow Down". While preparing to release his debut album, Clark realized the need to focus on his own happiness and well being. The lyrics, "...Time to relax/And take a load off the life I live/Stop thinkin' so fast/There's only so much that I can give../" detail the honest thoughts Clark felt while reflecting on his year-long whirlwind of events leading up to the debut release of I'm Just Sayin'. In a June 2010 blog posted on his official website, Clark mentioned "Can't Slow Down" is a description of his thoughts while trying to please and entertain others during his CD Release party. "I need to remember to make sure I'M having a good time. I know I will," he continues, "I guess that's what 'Can't Slow Down' is all about! Somebody bring Roses so I can stop and smell them..." This fast-paced and, at times, hectic schedule was also particularly evident in Clark's prior endeavors as he toured around the World with various legendary musical singers/artists.
Throughout his musical career, Clark has had the unique opportunity to play Bass Guitar alongside various popular music acts/singers. His expertise and talents have taken Clark around the World while playing alongside acts such as Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh (The Eagles), Don Henley, along with many others. For a 5-album span, Clark was given the highest honors when he was the go-to Bass player for Country music legend Dwight Yoakum. With musical influences from artists such as James Taylor and Peter Gabriel, Clark is able to showcase his own unique and authentic vocals on various television and radio advertisements including Coca Cola, Coors Light, and Fruit of the Loom. While promoting his musical sound throughout live concerts, television sets, and radios worldwide, Clark began writing and playing the majority of the music heard on I'm Just Sayin'. Released in June of 2010 on Blue-C Records, the album helped Clark blossom from an Instrumentalist to a full-fledged Singer and Songwriter.
2011 has already proven a very successful year for Singer-Songwriter Jonathan Clark, as he has received much recognition and accolades for his work. Clark was showcased on ASCAP'S Audio Portrait Series, TuneCore's Rock Sampler, along with many other features. The year is already proving busy for the Singer, as he hosts various music gigs including an April 5 gig from 8p.m.-11p.m. at Los Angeles, California's Molly Malones.
