1) Log in to your administration area at www.yoursitename.com/administrator
2) Across the top row of menus, choose content and go to all content items.
3) Click the title of the content item you would like to show on the front page (or create a new one)
4) On the tab to the right that says "publishing" put a check in the box next to "show on front page".
5) Click the disk icon to save.
To remove an item from the front page, you would repeat the steps above, but uncheck the box next to "Show on front page".
You can also easily access items that are published on the front page by choosing "Front page manager" on the home page of the administration area. (Click "home" in the top row of menus.)
How to remove author name and moderation date from content titles in a Joomla web site:
By default, Joomla shows author names and creation dates below titles of content. To remove the last updated date and "written by" from beneath the titles of your content:
1) Login to your administration area at www.yoursitename.com/administrator
2) On the home page after logging in, click the "global configuration button"
3) Click the "Content" tab.
4) You can now choose "Show" or "hide" next to all of the options there, such as author names and creation dates.
5) Be sure to click the disk icon at the top of the page to save your changes.
How to stop publishing a page in a Joomla web site
If you no longer wish for a page to be published *seen by the public), you can "turn it off". You can always turn it on again later.
1.) log in to www.yoursitename.com/administrator
2.) choose "content" from the row of menus across the top
3.) select "all content" from the drop down menu (or static content if you wish to stop publishing a static content item)
4.) look for the item you want to "turn off" in the list
5.) Under the middle column whre it says "published" there is a small rectangular icon with a green top. Click it. It should turn to a red x.
6.) The item is now off. To republish it, just follow the above steps and click the red x.
