Joran Van Der Sloot Admits to Holloway Extortion Scheme

Suspect in Natalee Holloway Disappearance Confesses (again)

When Joran Van der Sloot is not fielding marriage proposals from his jail cell, he is giving interviews to the press. In his latest verbose offering, Van der Sloot admits to an extortion scheme aimed at the family of Natalee Holloway. What's next?

Joran Van der Sloot Admits to Extortion

The New York Post reports that Joran Van der Sloot -- currently in custody on suspicion of murdering Stephany Flores -- gave an interview to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, in which he admits to demanding money from the family of Natalee Holloway. The latter was last seen with Van der Sloot before she disappeared (and presumably died) in 2005.

His rationale is callous: "I wanted to get back at Natalee's family -- her parents have been making my life tough for five years."

When Van der Sloot is not asking that his copious, publicly made confessions be retracted, he fields marriage proposals from women interested in bearing the alleged/confessed murderer's child. It is interesting to note why Dutch newspapers interview him or why Peruvian authorities grant the press repeated access to the suspected killer of Stephany Flores and Natalee Holloway.

A Look behind the Media Circus Surrounding the Infamous and Notorious O.J.

Case in point is O.J. Simpson. Cutting through the media circus surrounding the slow white Bronco chase, the murder trial, Johnny Cochran's rhyming admonition of what to do if "the gloves don't fit" and a jaw-dropping acquittal, is Celia Farber.

As outlined in Salon, this investigative reporter managed to get quite a bit of unofficial interview time with Simpson, but even in its aftermath, the responses and statements bring up more questions than they answer.

Perhaps it is the hint of uncertainty that a public mien of innocence coupled with incriminating quotes -- such as "Let's say I committed this crime ... Even if I did do this, it would have been because I loved her very much, right?" -- that has the public gasping for more. Or perhaps for something definitive? Joran Van der Sloot most certainly fits the bill.

What's Next in the Van der Sloot Saga?

The unpredictable nature of Joran Van der Sloot and his antics continues to draw the media. Add to this the self-imposed notoriety that not even Peruvian jail keepers can escape -- how else could he get a maximum security officer to take his photo, as outlined by Penn Live? -- and the fact that Van der Sloot admits to the Natalee Holloway extortion scheme is only the latest tidbit in a most likely long string of juicy news nuggets the young man will continue to dangle in front of media outlets.

What a piece of no good crap he is. Why does the press give him the time of day? I was really hoping he would have been killed in prison by now, a slow and painful death is what he deserves.
