Associated Press reports Van der Sloot Murder Confession

You don't get much more legitimate confirmation than a report from the Associated Press (AP). And the AP is saying that they have been told Joran van der Sloot has confessed to the crime of murder.

Joran, suspected in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba in May of 2005, as well as the murder of Stephany Flores in Peru--on the same day and month, in 2010--has confessed to the death of Flores only.

Col. Abel Gamarra, Peru's chief police spokesperson told the AP that Van der Sloot confessed to killing Stephany Flores on May 30, but Gamarra refused to discuss contents of the confession made. Joran van der Sloot, not being questioned about Natalee Holloway, has not commented on that ongoing case, however.

Flores Family Not Speaking Either

Joran's Peruvian victim, 21-year-old Stephany Flores, has parents and brothers who were initially concerned when Stephany did not return home as faithfully as was her habit. That family is now taking extra care to not taint a potential future conviction of the Dutch man accused of their loved ones murder. They are doing this by refusing to comment on Joran's confession of guilt.

Enrique Flores, one of Stephany Flores' brothers had this to say to the AP, "We are not going to make any comment. This is in the hands of the police, of the justice system."

Confession Marks Day 3 in Peruvian Custody: New Case Details Disclosed

Van der Sloot was slated to be taken to the Lima hotel where the murder occurred today, Tuesday June 8, for a crime reconstruction attempt. His confession regarding the death of Stephany Flores preceeded that effort by mere hours, and now the reconstruction effort may or may not be completed for investigative purposes.

Stephany and Joran were captured on security video footage entering the Lima hotel on Sunday, May 30 at 5 a.m., but Joran was the only one seen leaving the room around 8:10 a.m., when he left to purchase two cups of coffee and some bread at the supermarket across from the hotel.

Joran's 2nd Exit from Hotel Room

Less than one hour later, Joran is seen leaving again, this time at 9 a.m., with his laptop book bag on his back. Stephany would be found on Wednesday, June 2, beaten, and with her neck broken.

Formal charges will now be made, as the case makes its way to the prosecutors at this juncture, the AP was told. Joran van der Sloot will now be placed into an assigned prison to await his eventual trial as well.

In Peru there is no death or lifetime sentence. However, with a confession, a suspect has the hope of a reduced sentence. It is unclear if that was what prompted the confession of Joran van der Sloot or not, at this point in time.

Radel, what are you talking about "back on Aruban soil and get away with both crimes"...he is going to jail this time!!

  • Radell6/13/2010

No, Patricia, Joran is about to get back on Aruban soil and get away with both crimes. Natalee's parents will not get any info from this habitual liar, I'm afraid.

His influential parents saved his butt the first time in Aruba, but they can't help him in Peru. I think the truth about Natalee is about to come out.
