Joran Van Der Sloot Recants Stephany Flores Murder Confession: Says it was Coerced

Now, Joran van der Sloot says he was forced to confess to the murder of Stephany Flores and that he does not remember what he said. But, he adds that he will, "explain later how it all happened."

Chances are Peruvian authorities are not buying Joran's second thoughts on this confession. He has confessed and recanted to Natalee Holloway's murder several times over the past five years. It is also common knowledge to those who are following this case, that he was also involved in an extortion plot with the Holloway family to provide details of her death and whereabouts of her body for $250,000, just days before he met and murdered Stephany Flores.

Apparently, the rats coming out of the sewer and making their way into Joran's Peruvian jail cell by way of his toilet hole are making the young Dutchman just a wee bit nervous so he is reconsidering his confession. I suppose sewer rats bunking with you in a filthy jail cell would do that to someone.

As this story continues its twists and turns, it also becomes more and more bizarre. Joran's mother, Anita van der Sloot, has spoken out twice regarding her son's mental state, saying among other things that he is "sick in his head." But, her latest statement indicates that she actually believes he killed Stephany Flores.

There is nothing good to say about this story. It is a tragedy of the highest degree and there are no winners here. Joran van der Sloot has proven himself to be a pathological liar and murderer. Even if he does totally recant his story, the physical evidence against him is enormous. Not the least of which is his DNA found under the fingernails of Stephany Flores who authorities believe fought for her life in that hotel room that morning.

At this point, perhaps the best thing the Peruvian authorities can do is to stop giving Joran van der Sloot an audience. As long as someone is willing to listen to him, he is certainly willing to provide more lies. I hope they do not give him the opportunity to torment the Flores family as much as he has tormented the Holloway family. Enough already. Case closed.
