Joran Van Der Sloot Retracts Murder Confession in Stephany Flores Case

Joran van der Sloot has reportedly retracted his confession related to the murder of Stephany Flores in Lima, Peru, according to Radar Online. Van der Sloot claims he was "scared and confused" while being interrogated by Peruvian authorities and was "tricked" into confessing to the murder.

Van der Sloot told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf he was conned into believing he would be extradited to his home country in the Netherlands if he would tell investigators what they wanted to hear.

Van der Sloot claims the Peruvian authorities told him, "If you sign these papers, you will be extradited to the Netherlands."

"I was scared during the interrogation," van der Sloot said, "and wanted to leave." He went on to say that it was in his "blind panic" when he signed everything.

Recanting is Nothing New to Joran van der Sloot:
Van der Sloot is known for confessing and later recanting as he has done no less than four times in the case of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway who disappeared five years prior to Flores' death. This appears to be a cat and mouse game to the 22-year old Dutchman and thus far, he has evaded charges in Aruba. It has long been speculated that his father, who was a prominent figure in Aruba, may have had something to do with keeping the young van der Sloot out of trouble.

Before the Flores murder, van der Sloot was the subject of an FBI sting operation after he is said to have contacted the Holloway family in order to extort money in exchange for the location of Natalee Holloway's remains. The money was wired to an account in van der Sloot's name but the FBI was slow to act. It is said that van der Sloot used that money to fund his trip to Peru. The FBI has since been the subject of backlash for their inaction that many believe resulted in the death of another young lady.

Joran van der Sloot is being held at the Castro-Castro prison that houses murderers and terrorist. He is currently in solitary confinement where he is expected to remain for the next four or five months. Larry Levine, an ex-con and founder of Wall Street Prison Consultants, told The Early Show on Saturday that van der Sloot is a goner.

Early Show co-anchor Chris Wragge asked Levine what advice he would give to van der Sloot and Levine replied, "I'd tell him, 'You're not gonna make it' that 'What you need to do is pray, because someone's gonna kill ya, and just enjoy the rest of the time you have left on Earth."

Levine also said that because Flores' father is prominent, that would present a problem.

"...you've got bad people. And the problem he's facing is that the father of Stephany (Flores)...is a prominent person. And this is an impoverished prison. And you pay off the right people, ya know, someone will stick a knife right in the gut...They'll be lining up to kill him. He has no hope. He has no chance."

Will there finally be justice for Natalee Holloway and Stephany Flores, two kindred spirits who had unfortunate meetings with one common denominator in the form of Joran van der Sloot? Only time will tell.
