Joran Van Der Sloot is "Sick in His Head"

Anita van der Sloot says that her son, Joran van der Sloot, is "sick in the head." She also says that he had left Aruba to keep from getting committed to an insane asylum.

Okay. But, here's the deal. Most people wouldn't just kill somebody in any kind of premeditated or methodical way, go buy some coffee and sponge cake and sit over the dead body and eat it while they ponder their exit strategy. So, um, yeah, I would say he's rather "sick in the head," Mrs.van der Sloot. But, most of us figured that out rather long ago. You know, when you were still in denial, trying to cover up for your son and protect him?

All biting, insensitive sarcasm aside - as a mother, I really feel for this woman. As a mother of a son who is nearly as old as Joran van der Sloot (and God help me for saying this, who sometimes does some really dumb things) I feel much compassion.

I know how hard it is to watch your child do ridiculously stupid things and then seal their fate with even more stupidity. It is a powerless feeling and one that just leaves you with a sinking knot in your gut.

I've come to the conclusion that the terrible two's are not so terrible after all. It's the terrible rest of the years. At least when they're two, you can physically restrain them from hurting themselves. But, when they are twenty-two, well, they are on their own and it's totally out of your hands. So, in light of that? I feel your pain, Mrs. Van der Sloot.

But, we're talking murder here. Cold, calculated, methodical murder with no conscience. I think Joran van der Sloot is way beyond just "touched in the head." We're talking deep- down- twisted- psycho- sick in the head. Ted Bundy psycho sick in the head. As much as you love your son, Mrs. Van der Sloot, this one is out of your hands too and very much in the hands of the Peruvian authorities.

Unfortunately, recent news reports say that the inmates are already plotting the demise of Joran van der Sloot. According to a former inmate of the Peruvian jail house, Joran van der Sloot's days are numbered. What is even sadder is that there are more than a few people taking pleasure in that. I can't say that I'm one of them, but this entire story is as bizarre as it gets.

I can't help but feel some sorrow for Anita van der Sloot, but I have to wonder--if she knew he was so "sick in his head," why did she not clamor to have him committed? For all I know, that's a question that torments her daily, though.
