Joran Van Der Sloot Update: Available Drugs and a Freshly-Painted Prison Cell?

The situation surrounding accused killer Joran van der Sloot has been quiet for some time. Every now and then, though, Joran van der Sloot does pop back up in the news, and he's come back into the news this month for allegedly buying pot from a prison guard while incarcerated at Miguel Castro Castro Prison, according to CBS News. Joran van der Sloot's lawyer denies the allegation, though. Of course! What else would the general public expect? Joran van der Sloot and his lawyer have denied several allegations, so this serves as nothing new, right?

According to CBS News, prison surveillance video footage shows a "shirtless van der Sloot" trying to buy drugs outside his cell, but his lawyer tells that the scene was "staged." CBS News reports Joran van der Sloot's lawyer as claiming that Joran was allowed to paint his cell, and this is what he claims Joran was doing while he was talking to the guard. Joran van der Sloot's lawyer does ask some legitimate questions, though. Van der Sloot's lawyer wants to know about the making of the tape and how it made its way to the public, according to CBS News.

Joran van der Sloot's lawyer is urging the prison to look into this matter, according to CBS News. Could it be that the scene really was actually staged, and that someone just wanted to make some quick money with the tape? It could be if whoever put the tape out there actually did so for money. Could it also be, though, that Joran van der Sloot did try to make such a purchase? This could also be. One question that would need answering if this was the case, though, would be where would Joran get the money to purchase drugs, even if he did have the opportunity to do so?

Does he have the opportunity to earn money while incarcerated? Does the Peruvian prison system provide prisoners with so much money? Is someone sending Joran van der Sloot money? CBS News reports the claim of Joran van der Sloot offering the American equivalent of $1.80 for pot, but one would think that even such a small amount of money would be really hard to come by while incarcerated, particularly in Miguel Castro Castro Prison? Is Joran van der Sloot really guilty of buying pot while incarcerated? He may be, and he may not be, but it may be just like with all the other accusations surrounding him: we may never know.
