Jordin Sparks Is the New 'American Idol'

With Over 74 Million Votes Casted

At the end of the night the two finalists stood on stage with Ryan Seacrest, the host of American Idol. Blake and Sparks held hands and whispered to each others, smiles were present on both of their faces. After a lot of delay from Seacrest for dramatical reasons, Seacrest announced that Sparks was this seasons new American Idol. Sparks broke out into tears of happiness, and Blake offered hugs and smiles as a good sport.

There was an enormous amount of entertainment throughout the span of the show as well. Finalists Jordin Sparks and Blade Lewis sang many songs, which were duo'd with famous musicians, past American Idol winners, and others that made it to the finals in this season. Kelly Clarkson performed her original song titled "Never Again" with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry.

But, of course, the night was meant mainly for the two finalists-- Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis. Blake is known for his elaborate beat-boxing techniques. Beat-boxing is a technique in which the musician uses their mouth to create elaborate sounds that mimic music effects, or specific instruments. Blake is better known for his incredible entertainment skills rather than his decent, and the judges admitted just that on a few occasions.

Unlike Blake, Sparks was in the competition for raw singing. At the mere age of 17, Sparks took the competition into the palm of her hand. Her skill allowed her to hit high notes like the pros, and the lows as well.

The punk-pop legends Green Day also rocked the house with a mellow tune they titled "A Working Class Hero is Something to Be", which is a song on their charitable album called "Instant Karma: The Campaign to Save Darfur".

Sanjaya Malakar, a participant that made it nearly to the end made an entrance with Joe Perry by singing the song "You Really Got Me", which was essentially made famous by the legendary rock band Van Halen. Sanjaya, during his performance, even walked down to a crying girl in the audience and touched her shoulder, which turned regular tears into a rush of emotion. Joe Perry, mid-song, broke into a welcomed guitar solo.

Overall, it was a fiery competition between the two finalists-- Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis. The final vote brought in over 74 million voters, a very large statistic. Emotions ran high and tears lightly climbed down the face of the audience, as well as the finalists themselves.

Personally, I didn't think this was one of the better seasons of American Idol. It was alright, just not as good as other seasons. Hopefully next year it will be better! Great reporting Andrew!

Both of the final two were awesome.

I am very happy for her. She is so infectious that she makes all around her want to smile. I don't know if that will be an asset for a singing career but she is amicable none the less.

To be as young as she is I think she did a really great job to perform the way she did throughout the whole show.

I'm starting to think she will be a one-hit-wonder.

I'm happy she won. All the kids who made it into the top 4-5 have promising futures in front of them.

I'm sorry. I think she's a decent singer, and will someday be a great one, a lot like... you guessed it... Melinda. I though it was fixed so Idol could have a younger person to promote and to reach all the expendable income from those under 25, who would sing a more accessible kind of music than an older R&B style. It was one thing to pay tribute to greats, after all, those oldsters gave them content to sing, but no way do they want another Taylor Hicks. It just won't sell enough merchandise.

    I'm happy for her!
