American Idol Jordin Sparks is performing as part of a series of free live performances taking place all day in Washington D.C. on Sunday, April 20, 2008 as part of "Earth Day on the National Mall".

The Roots, Will.i.am, Doug E Fresh, O.A.R., Warren Haynes, Thievery Corporation, Umphreys McGee, Toots & The Maytals, DC Boys Choir, Talib Kweli, Chrisette Michele, Mambo Sauce, and others have been announced as performers according to the Environment News Service (ENS).

When Are Performances for Earth Day in Washington, D.C.?
As far as what time the Earth Day on the Mall concert will begin, performances by American Idol, Jordin Sparks and others will take place from noon until 7 pm.

What Else is Happening at Earth Day on the National Mall
According to the Environment News Service, "Speakers include: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid; President of the Earth Day Network Kathleen Rogers; climate scientist Dr. James Hansen of NASA, actors Ed Begley, Chevy Chase and Edward Norton; Congressman Ed Markey of Massachusetts; Congresswoman Jane Harmon of California, Mayor Rock Anderson of Salt Lake City, author and journalist Thomas Friedman, environmental leaders."

Call for Global Climate Change
Besides all the fun and music, organizers hope to draw attention to the importance of getting out the green vote and urge Congress to vote with their conscience and put global warming and related issues at the front of the House and Senate agendas.

Where To Go For the Earth Day Concert in Washington, D.C.
Just head to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the celebration and rally. Forget about taking your car, traffic will be a nightmare and it is likely many roads will be blocked. Take metro. The closest stop will be the Smithsonian on the blue and orange line.

Other Events
About 100,000 people are expected on the National Mall and a total of 500,000 nationwide. Eight other related environmental music festival events are planned in New York, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas and Denver, presented by Earth Day Network and Green Apple Festival.
