Jordin Sparks, at only seventeen years old became the youngest American Idol winner. She beat twenty-five year old Blake Lewis to earn the title. A record 74 million votes were cast during the four hours of voting on Tuesday evening.

After a stellar performance Tuesday night, Simon Cowell predicted her win. Yet, Jordin was still nearly speechless on Wednesday night when Ryan Seacrest announced that she was the season six winner of American Idol. Times Online quotes Jordin as saying, "It just turned out pretty cool. I guess."

Jordin Sparks calls Glendale, Arizona her home. She has been singing since she was a young child and was thrilled when she turned sixteen and was eligible to try out for American Idol. Her father is Phillippi Sparks, a former National Football League Player.

Jordin joins the ranks of other successful American Idol winners: Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Hicks.

American Idol is the number one show on television, and draws thirty million viewers to its twice weekly viewings.

We liked Jordin but we were really pulling for Blake. It was very disappointing that they picked a song that was geared towards female singers. Great info on Jordin. Great article.

I was totally pulling for Blake. He was more original and just all around amazing.

I like Jordin just fine, but I was sooooooo disappointed Blake didn't win. I voted for him as much as I could Tuesday night. I love me some Blake.

Good for Jordin. I did think the show did a poor job when they decided both singers would sing the same song from the songwriting competition. It was a little unfair that a song was chosen that tailored to a female singer. I loved both of them, but we all know the "real" winner was Melinda. Excellent article.
