Jose Ole Chicken & Cheese Taquitos - Food Review

Lisa Riggs
My family and I are very fond of Mexican food. We love to try new dishes in restaurants and frozen meals from the supermarket. I recently spotted Jose Ole Chicken & Cheese Taquitos in the freezer section of my local grocery store and decided to add it to a Mexican themed party buffet. Here is what I learned about this frozen food product.

The front cover of the box definitely lures in the consumer. It depicts a tasty stack of flour wrapped chicken and cheese, heated to perfection and deliciously seasoned. The description of the contents states that this product is made with real cheddar cheese and provides protein, calcium and fiber. I paid only $2.99 for a twenty two point five ounce box. Considering that this is more than one pound of food, I definitely felt it was a very good price.

Preparation of this frozen meal is very easy. After heating the oven to a temperature of four hundred degrees, the desired number of tortillas get arranged on a baking sheet and placed in the center. The taquitos then get baked for twelve to fourteen minutes. Turning them midway through the baking time ensures an even crisping. The tortillas should be allowed to rest for a minute or two before serving. Directions for pan frying and preparing in the microwave are also listed on the side of the box.

A two piece serving contains two hundred and thirty calories. There is ten grams of Fat, with two grams of Saturated Fat. There is no Trans Fat in this product, but there is fifteen milligrams of Cholesterol per serving. Those consumers who are concerned with their Sodium intake should take note that this serving size contains five hundred and ten milligrams. There is also twenty seven grams of Total Carbohydrate and three grams of Sugar in two pieces. Luckily, this food offers some nutritional advantages as well. One serving has nine grams of Protein, ten percent of Calcium and fifteen percent of Iron.

My guests and I were very pleased with Jose Ole Chicken & Cheese Taquitos. The flour tortillas crisped up nicely in the oven, giving them a very satisfying texture. The shredded chicken was plentiful and the melted cheddar cheese was a tasty addition. The seasonings were just right and definitely added a bit of zip. Dipping these snacks in a bit of salsa, sour cream and guacamole made them even more enjoyable. Judging this product on price, ease of preparation and taste earns it a full five star rating. The exorbitant amount of Salt contained in this frozen food would certainly discourage me from making this a regular purchase, but I would definitely add it to my shopping cart for a future party or special occasion.
