Joseph Smith, Author of the Book of Mormon
An Uneducated Farm Boy Could Have Written it and According to Neutral Sources, Did
However, as a young member of the religion growing up, reading the Book of Mormon was not only dull, unlike the Bible the style between the various supposed authors of the Golden Plate did not vary. This in itself does not prove that Joseph Smith was the writer, but it does lead to the conclusion at least with my inexpert analysis of the writing style used in the Book of Mormon that the book was in fact written by the same person.
Jospeh Smith, upon finishing the translation, proclaimed the Book of Mormon to be the most correct book on Earth. If that is true why does the current text of the Book of Mormon read "pure and delightsome" and the edition I had prior to 1980 read "white and delightsome." The person who does a website search for the Book of Mormon on Amazon.com can find a copy of the 1830s printing of the book published by the second largest Mormon group,t he Community of Christ. The edition that the CoC puts out lists Joseph Smith as the author on its cover. The Amazon reviewers who belong to the larger Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints only say that the 1830s original printing is not the real copy of the text. It is not the Book of Mormon that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints uses, that is sure, but it almost certainly is the Book of Mormon in its final form as Joseph Smith intended it to be read.
I am not the first person to wonder how many Book of Mormon authors there were. The Utah Light House Ministry, well known critics of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, conducted a stylometric study on the text and the Peral of Great Price and concluded that both books were the work of Joseph Smith. BYU did its own stylometric study and found the book to have 24 authors, including God himself.
Exactly how the BYU researchers obtained examples of God's writing are unknown, but will likely be the result of further speculation on my part. A third stylometric study, conducted by a British Non-Mormon working for the Association of History and Computting included both the Doctrine and Covenants and the Book of Mormon and concluded that both books had the same author. Since the Doctrine and Covenants was written.
Most Mormons, like most Christians, do not in fact read their sacred texts and refer to them only occasionally to them on Sunday. Those who have read the Book of Mormon quickly judge it to be an effective sleep aid, despite it being full of stories that would make high adventure were they written by a better author.
The original version of the Book is littered with errors and in fact not divided into chapter and verses as is the current Book of Mormon. Even if the Mormon scripture was as it claimed to be a record of an ancient people inhabiting the Americas, it remains stylistically consistent throughout and there is a severe lack of archaeological evidence for the events described in its pages.

Post a CommentI agree that the Book of Mormon had one author. One principal author, that is. His name was Mormon. Most of the words were his compilation of other texts.
On top of that, the Book of Mormon had one translator: Joseph Smith. That explains why there are similarities in diction and writing style because a translator uses his own vocabulary.
And then, there are many differences in diction between different sections of the Book of Mormon that Mormon did transcribe directly from earlier authors. For example, Alma is the only one who uses the word "soul" when he meant "spirit."
Unfortunately, I do agree that this is more of an opinion piece than a purely factual article. It really only focuses on one unproveable point, citing other's opinions to back up this opinion. I don't know if it's possible to get better sources, since it is kind of like saying 'this apple is sweet'. I mean, how do you go about proving that? It would be similarily difficult to prove who wrote Shakespear's plays. It is just that we have a consensus of opinion on that matter, not that anyone can offer proof positive. In my opinion, you don't need to try so hard to prove your opinion.
this article was a huge waste of time. thanks for publishing your opinion and passing it on as "researched writing" for everyone else.
Lara should be ashamed of writing this article. Criticizing the grammar of the Book of Mormon, when she herself makes mistakes is her first sentence of this article. This book is sacred to many. Don't attack. Christ teaches love - let's show that to each other.
Why do you only site one source for this article? That shows a clear bias and poor research.
Ah, Alma, ignorance, no... Not ignorance. It is easy to get dates wrong but it did not occur in 1843 either.
Ignorance does not mean something you disagree with. Anyone who can stomach reading the book can see that the writing style is consistent throughout which means instead of being 24 seperate people it was written by the same author.
The author's claims don't stand up to historical fact. She has inverting the timing of Joseph Smith's statement that Book of Mormon was the most correct book from when he actually said it in 1843 to 1829. The foundation of most of her observations is merely ignorance.
Interesting observations. Thank You fer sharin'. ;-}}>
