The NFL Network isn't exactly popular with fans, at least when they broadcast games. But failing to catch Josh McDaniels' f-bomb, even when they had a chance to bleep it, only makes them more of a laughingstock.
The context of McDaniels' cursing came after a series of bad mistakes by the Broncos. Denver looked ready to go up 10-0 on the Giants in the first quarter, but after getting to first-and-goal, three penalties killed the drive. The Broncos only went up 6-0, and fans were starting to worry about a fifth straight loss.
McDaniels went off on his team for making so many big mistakes, in a pre-recorded rant that included the f-bomb. When the NFL Network replayed the clip, they didn't even take the time to bleep the f word, even though they had ample opportunity to. Immediately, the NFL Network announcers apologized for it, showing more quick thinking than the people in their editing room.
Even McDaniels took a shot at the network after he found out what happened. But otherwise, he was in a much better mood, for the first time in a month, as the Broncos blew out the Giants 26-6. Although McDaniels has been blamed in part for the Broncos' recent downfall, most of the blame in this instance falls on the NFL Network.
Since debuting in 2006, the network has had pretty bad pr. Disputes with Comcast, and the fact that not everyone had access to the channel, got things off to a bad start. Even now, the network is mocked for bad broadcasting and games. This year alone, the NFL Network has shown two games between sub .500 teams, and one blowout between teams that have tanked after hot starts.
The Josh McDaniels f-bomb is a rare case where the network will get more backlash than the person who cursed. CBS, FOX and NBC know full well that players and coaches get R-rated on the sidelines, and make sure not to air those parts - or at least bleep them. Although the NFL Network has only been around a short time, they were expected to know that golden rule as well.
McDaniels may have to pay a fine anyway for his f-bomb, and so will the network. After that, McDaniels will get back to work in getting Denver to the playoffs. The NFL Network will try to get back on track next Thursday, when the Jets visit the Bills - another game with a poor match up.

Post a CommentI don't see why anyone would hate on the NFL network. I watch it everyday, and would
not be a happy camper if ever lost it. So
they made a mistake who hasn't ?
