Joss Whedon has huge following though he is the creator of television series (TV) rather than an actor. Through his shows of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and the lesser known Internet musical Dr Horrible, he has become a cultural legend in the science fiction (sci-fi) communities. He has crafted several film scripts and a comic book series. To many viewers, the network seemed to have been deliberately sabotaging Whedon airing several episodes out of their intended order inclusive of the 90 minute pilot being aired last. Do to the high fan base dubbed the Browncoats, Whedon was able to successfully make the movie, also named, Firefly (the same name as the series). It was aired last!

Perhaps others like me were drawn like a moth to a flame, at the treatment of Whedon by the network. Sci-fi is not usually my usual genre. However, after seeing his brilliance at work, talent and ideas refreshingly new it isn't surprising that after Firefly was axed, his fan base grew.

Spring of 2009, was the first season of Whedon's latest creation, Dollhouse. The shows premise is that the 'Dolls', also called 'Actives', are people whose memories of their past and their personalities, have wiped clean through what looks like a modified form of electric-shock therapy. The 'Dolls' are then blank slates which can be imprinted with new skills, memories and languages. The story mainly plays out by follow the Doll, Echo and her activities. Echo is played by Eliza Dushku. The Actives are hired for particular jobs, be the jobs for good, evil, or fantasy. Other Dolls whose storylines intersect with Echo's are Sierra (Dichen Lachman) and Victor (Enver Gjokaj). Their every movement is monitored and is attempted to be controlled by the persons who own the facility where they live, the Dollhouse. The Dollhouse's are clients are the rich and powerful, the movers and shakers of the world.

The Dollhouse itself is cloaked in mystery and hidden from view but located somewhere in Los Angles. It is a subsidiary of a sophisticated research group known as the Rossum Corporation. As the story unfolds there are inactions between various Dolls, their handles, those who run the Dollhouse, and of course the ever diligent federal agent, Paul Ballard (Tahmoh Penikett) bent on cracking open the case of the Dollhouse.

Joss Whedon's cult following can breathe easy, Dollhouse has been picked up for a second session. Whedon admitted that budget cuts may affect his plans for the second season. In an interview on Enver Gjokaj Resource, Joss himself stated, "I sort of assumed they were going to tell me I wasn't going to do more. It looked pretty grim there. I prepped myself so well that when I heard I felt more like Zero Mostel in "The Producers" than anyone else - "What?!"

In the same interview, Whedon expressed that that he hopes the fan base is not affected by the budget cuts. He reintegrated that budget cuts were a part of the fifth season on 'Angel'. As the storyline line wasn't involved, fans seemed satisfied.

When asked how Whedon plans to incorporate the last episode of session one to dovetail with the second season he stated, "the flash-forward in the 13th episode took place long after where we are right now. So we can be moving toward some of those events which are unexplained."
