Journee Bio-Restorative Day Cream

Amanda Furbeck
JOURNÉE Bio-restorative Day Cream is a unique beauty product by the company, Neocutis, with a controversial backgound.. Neocutis claims this is the most complete anti-aging day cream. Journee uses Swiss technology to combine a broad spectrum UVA / UVB Sun Protection with an SPF of thirty, along with PSP, anti-oxidants, and hyaluronic acid. PSP is a protein blend of Human Growth Factors, Cytokines, and interleukins.
Journee is a product that is made for all skin types. It helps to hydrate the skin, protects against environmental damage, and helps to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps protect against sun damage, and is non-greasy. It absorbs quickly and is slightly tinted to blend into the skin.

The benefits of Journee are terrific, and after a few days of use, I was pleased with the results and felt that the cream fulfilled the claims. It feels light and silky when applied, has little to no odor, and protects well against the sun. But what is the cost of Journee?

My little jar of Journee was part of a set from eyeslipsface.com. I paid twenty dollars and received some mineral makeup, a few bracelets, makeup brushes, a gift certificate for a laser treatment, and of course, the Journee Cream. This was an amazing price, as I recently discovered that it would cost anywhere from fifty to a hundred dollars to purchase just one ounce of this special day cream. The price seemed awfully steep to me, so I dug a little deeper.

What I found made me rather sick to my stomach and I cannot continue using this cream in good conscience. The Journee cream contains cells that were cultured at a cell bank using cells from a medically terminated fetus. I certainly do not know the circumstances that caused a baby to be medically terminated, or in harsher terms, aborted, or why the mother would donate the body to be used in cell research. My heart goes out to the mother who lost her baby and had to make this decision, and breaks for the baby who did not get a chance at life.

I believe that life begins at conception and to me, a fetus, no matter how early in his or her development, is a baby - a person - that deserves to be treated as such. This cream, even though it is intended to for good, blurs the fine lines surrounding abortion, freedom of choice and the right to life. I cannot bear the thought of putting cells that were cultured from a biopsy of a tiny baby on my skin, no matter what the circumstances surrounding the end of the pregnancy..

I am very disappointed that the Journee cream uses fetal cells. I am even more disappointed in myself for using a beauty product without knowing where all the ingredients originated. I never would have expected that a product from an inexpensive makeup company would contain such precious ingredients. The price of the Journee cream is certainly steep, but the cost of this cream is far too dear to ever be a part of my beauty regimen.
