Journosphere: The Journalistic World of the Blogosphere
A Community that Strives for Authentic Transparency
They are unique, these blogs, as they are essentially first-person web-based communication methods that are open and autonomous, without compromising the integrity of the writing community. In my opinion, the posts created by the bloggers initiate issues in thier posts related to the larger focus of thier blog, which may deal with major fallacies that may exist in our country, such as health care, for example. So on these blogs, the author creates posts that vary in content length, which is followed by the blogger's interpretation and opinion of this issue that they have formed on such a post. It is at this point that the reader can assess the blogger's voice along with thier diction and tone. Some bloggers seem a bit angry about the issue related to the mission of thier blog that they brought to the attention of thier readers with one of thier posts. Other bloggers seem flippant about thier posts, as well as certain ones that are rather funny at times. Yet what makes the posts on these blogs unique is that the posts are a ultimate combination of providing information normally not addressed in mainstream media first, and then this annotation is immediately followed by the opinion of the blogger. Some authors seem to strive for a higher degree of objectivity than others, it seems. As with other things on the internet, authenticity and reliability are always suspect. To no suprise, these bloggers who strive for this objectivity have been or are actual journalists without traditional training. And these bloggers' posts typically allow the reader to comment on the post created by the author easily, which sort of creates a Socratic type of learning through this type of dialogue that allows the average citizen to create and offer thier own recommendations with thier opinion on the post and, if comments are frequent on a post, it almost becomes some sort of group therapy discussion or what one might hear on a talk show with extended dialogues that have occured.
Also, exclusive benefits seem to be available with blogs, in general. Just the fact that the bloggers do seem to express thier voice, thier thoghts and reflections, on a particular issue addressed on thier blog seems to strengthen thier ideas they are attempting to convey to thier readers. With the genre blogs, frequent networking seems to occur, along with support from thier colleagues who share thier views on the topic of thier blogs, which possibly can be a powerful catalyst for change if the topic happens to involve the well being of our citizens, with this networking and support.
With those blogs that deal with the major problems facing us as citizens, such as corruption, collusion, or flaws in the systems of the government, the bloggers are welcomed muckrackers, as they are serving the public interest without the threat of being silenced, unless libel occurs. Thier writings may have the ability to generate advocacy on particular issues, as well as action that can be taken to address such issues. Radical and rapid disclosure of wrongdoing happens often due to certain blogs of this nature. Because of what bloggers do- conduct constant exposition and feature examination, all happening with the absence of propagnada, along with rumors or speculation, they could be viewed as powerful forces to deal with by those in opposition with them. Only recently have blogs achieved a degree of deserved credibility. And to me, it's a whole new world, as awareness prevents deliberate ignorance.
By the way, there seems to be a whole new vocabulary with this new media form. Recently, I counted close to 100 words specific to the blogosphere that have been created over this past decade. I'm mystified by what the origins of what these words may be.
Guess the dictionary people have been keeping busy with thier updates. Because the written word is a good thing.
