Joyce Chen Classic Series 4-Piece Carbon-Steel Wok Set Review

Jamie Cortez
When you want a dependable yet affordable wok set the Joyce Chen Classic Series carbon-steel wok set should be in your shopping list. Joyce Chen is a famous Chinese chef that won't settle for low-quality cookware and decided to start her own cookware line following here own high standards. This set includes a 14-inch wok, a nonstick dome lid, one recipe booklet and a 12-inch spatula. Though oddly shaped the bamboo spatula is proven to be very good when used for turning and stirring.

The wok itself is made from thick 1.5 mm gauge carbon steel. It's fast to heat, much faster than a skillet or other straight-sided pans. The carbon steel material also makes the heat spread evenly throughout the wok. The handles are beautifully made from birch wood and have different shapes. One handle is long and the other one (the helper handle) is shaped just like the handles on an ordinary wok. Just like the shows you've seen on the food network the long handle allows you to do a little "acrobatic" move that you can use to entertain your family or guests. This wok set is safe to be used on an electric or gas cook tops.

Note that the wok must be seasoned before use since it does not use a nonstick coating. The good thing is when you use it to cook it is in fact not too sticky at all. Cleaning the wok is easy too. You need nothing more than warm water and a little dish soap. The absence of nonstick coating on the wok is a big plus since nonstick coating pose a health danger when they are scraped.

As mentioned above this wok set includes a recipe booklet. You really should try the recipes in the booklet. They are easy and most importantly delicious.

Conclusion

For a mere $29 you can get yourself this large and dependable Joyce Chen Classic Series carbon-steel wok set. The large size allows you to cook almost anything on it and the long handle is great if you are the attention-craving type that likes to show off when cooking. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with showing off your cooking skill. In fact I enjoy it myself whenever is see a chef play with his wok. Anyway this is a great wok set to have.
