Joys of Winter

Abbie Morris
Laughter fills the air.
Children play in the square.

Smoke rises from the house trunk.
Bunnies tumble out of holes - oops, stuck -
To ramp and play in the glittery, white snow.
Oh, what funny sights, if I do say so.

Children with red noses go sledding down steep hills,
Fly over icy bumps and get the craziest thrills.
Christmas carolers sing out in the cold -
Singing high and low - some singing like a croaky toad.

Snowflakes fall gently on our bare nose
And melt softly like the heart that receives a rose.
Kids of all ages wear big clunky boots
And receive little toys that go "toots!"

Crazy hats and Bumblebee slippers are the style
And give many a thrill and smile.
Big, comfortable sweaters and a Cappuccino
Warm our insides and we top it off with a pillow.
We read at midnight
And make snowmen in the sunlight.

Youthful folks look like a penguin
As they try ice skatin'.
Only, Penguins know how to walk on ice.
They just look funny, but they trot nice.
Not like us, who have our legs fly from underneath us.
How funny we must look - all tumbled - what a fuss.

We go in for some hot chocolate
And share some riddles with a mate.

Before we sleep we say a prayer,
Saying thanks for all the sweet care.
The snow falls down outside
And God feels closer to our side.
Then we get tucked in our bed
And snuggle up with our teddy bear O`bed.
