Judge Susan Bolton Blocks Key Portions of Arizona Immigration Law (SB 1070)

Judge Susan Bolton blocked key portions of Arizona immigration law, outlined in SB 1070, ruling that parts of SB 1070 are unconstitutional. Judge Susan Bolton effectively supported the Obama administration's arguments over the new Arizona immigration law, stalling it a day before it is scheduled to go into effect in Arizona.

Judge Susan Bolton Blocks Key Parts of Arizona Immigration Law SB 1070

New Arizona immigration law, Senate Bill 1070, which was signed three months ago by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, has been a hot point of contention across America. The new Arizona immigration law, blocked in part Wednesday by the ruling of Judge Susan Bolton, was set to be implemented beginning July 29, 2010, which is tomorrow. Crucial parts of S.B. 1070 were struck by Judge Susan Bolton, including the matter of detaining a person suspected of being in the country illegally who cannot present papers.

Also struck from SB 1070 by Judge Bolton, a section making it a crime to not carry immigration papers proving a person's citizenship. These sections of S.B. 1070 are being blocked from the new Arizona immigration law by Judge Susan Bolton because she says they "preempt" and could interfere with Federal immigration policy and enforcement. Judge Susan Bolton also said that portions of Arizona immigration law S.B. 1070 "would result in harassment of lawfully present aliens", according to CBS News on Wednesday.

Judge Susan Bolton also blocked portions of new Arizona immigration law measure SB 1070 concerning aliens seeking work, including soliciting work in public areas (day labor). Bolton's position was that the focus of immigration and labor reform investigations should focus on those hiring illegals, not on individual workers, unless another crime (like using false papers or committing identity fraud) is thought to have been committed.

What do you think of SB 1070? Is it time for changes in Arizona immigration law, or it this policy just going too far? If Arizona immigration law S.B. 1070 mirrors federal immigration law, which it does, are people making too much of this issue altogether? Sound off in the comments below!

What the Hell? If the government was actually enforcing the law the states (i'm hoping Texas enacts the same) wouldn't have to. I have to show my ID everywhere it is asked and you don't NOT FAIR!

All of us Americans have to have drivers licenses to drive,Or some type of ID.The Mexicans should be no different.Whats eventually going to happen is the Mexicans are going to turn Muslim and then we are going to be in a mess.I say drive them all out like a bunch of hogs.

It's interesting, how differently some who ardently support Arizona's law on "states rights" grounds are the same people who oppose states rights in respect to say, marijuana regulation or assisted suicide laws.
