Juice Bottle Beaded Curtain

Plastic Bottle Doorway Accent

Have you ever seen some of the cool designs on the sides of plastic juice bottles? Once the label is out of the way you'll see that the plastic bottle has some areas that are raised, and other areas that are sunken, to create an interesting pattern. Use those to your advantage and you can craft the most unique "beaded" curtains. Whether you add beads or not is up to you but, when you cut up juice, soda, or water bottles, you'll be able to easily turn them into doorway accents, room dividers, and home decorator pieces.

We've all seen beaded curtains but the ones you make will be quite different from those. First, pierce the side of the bottle with a sharp knife, and cut off the bottom. Do the same to the other end to remove the top. You should end up with a cylinder of plastic. Cut down the side to open up the cylinder.

Cut sections of the patterns off the sides of the bottle to get the pieces and shapes you want for the beaded curtain. Cut small squares, rectangles, triangles, or other simplistic designs. Cut the circular bottom off of the bottle and use it as well. It will take quite a few bottles to make a full beaded curtain that covers an entire doorway. However, you can add other elements to the plastic pieces to create just the look you want.

On the back side of the plastic, paint with acrylic paint in the color of your choice. You can paint all the pieces the same color or combine various colors. It might take more than one coat to get the coverage you want. Once you paint the plastic pieces they look much more impressive than the clear plastic.

To assemble the curtain, use fishing twine, or even string. Poke holes in areas on the juice bottle bottom, and the plastic shapes, then thread the fishing twine through them. You can thread on a plastic rectangle, a bead, the bottle bottom, a bead, and another rectangle. Or, create your own patterns and combinations.

The beaded curtain will be much more beautiful when you add flashy elements to the plastic pieces. Glue on tiny mirrors, shells, beads, marbles, stickers, or other simple craft items.

The easiest way to hang the finished strands is to simply staple them to the upper part of the doorway. The unusual beaded curtain takes a bit of time to create but, once it's finished, it can be a cherished gift for a girl's room, an adorable accent in a nursery, or a pretty cover-up for a closet doorway.
