Julia E. Laack Strips Nude to Avoid Arrest, Blames Child, Police Report

Wisconsin Woman Strips Nude, Fights Cops, Exposes Buttocks -- in Front of Her Children

In the "How to be disqualified for nomination as parent of the year" category, Julia E. Laack of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, may have the inside track. According to the Associated Press, not only was the mother of three allegedly intoxicated, it appears that she shoplifted, stripped to become nude to avoid arrest, exposed herself, assaulted a police officer, and got arrested -- all in the space of a few minutes. And police heard her tell one of the children it was all his fault. The only thing that could possibly make the situation more embarrassing or condemnatory for Julia E. Laack would have been if the entire series of events had been captured on video.

Sheboygan Police responded to a call that Julia E. Laack had shoplifted a cigarette lighter and a bag of beef jerky from a convenience store and went to her house. At first, according to the police report, Laack refused to open the door, yelling at one of her children that the incident was all his fault. After entering, police attempted to calm Laack down. Instead, she stripped to her underwear in front of her three children, telling the police they could not arrest her naked. As police attempted to restrain the nude Laack, she kicked one officer in the groin and spit in another's mouth. The report also maintained that the 36-year-old woman exposed her buttocks through the rear window of the squad car on the way to the police station.

The police report did not name one of her male children as instigator. However, it did note that Julia E. Laack's blood alcohol content level was .112, which is slightly above the .08 legal limit. Whether or not the level of alcohol in her system contributed to her abdication of her role as responsible parent is debatable.

But Julia E. Laack of Sheboygan is not the only parent that won't be getting kudos for their parenting skills this year. Matthew Hess of Mooresville, North Carolina, disappeared with his 9-month-pregnant 12-year-old adopted daughter in late September. If that wasn't bad enough, he took her 11-year-old sister as well. The trio were found less than a week later in Smith County, Tennessee. As the children were returned to North Carolina social services (note they were not returned to their mother), Matthew Hess was extradited on charges of neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. But Lincoln County, North Carolina, then issued warrants for taking indecent liberties with a child, first-degree rape, and felony incest.

And then there is the recent case of Meleanie Hain, a Lebanon, Pennsylvania, woman who decided to wear a sidearm to her 5-year-old's soccer game last year. After having her handgun permit revoked, then reissued, she sued the Sheriff that had revoked her license for $1 for defamation of character and loss of business. Meleanie Hain and her husband, Scott, had filed for divorce earlier this year but Scott took matters into his own hands Wednesday evening. In front of their three children, Scott Hain allegedly shot and killed Meleanie Hain with a handgun, then went upstairs and shot himself with a shotgun.

There are many who believe that some do not have the capacity to rear children in a nourishing, socially productive manner. It would seem that people like Julia Laack, Matthew and Janette Hess, and Meleanie and Scott Hain have been more than willing to prove them correct.
