Julia Hurley from Ex-Hooters Girl to Political Career

Fighting Your Way Out of a Hole Can Teach You to Reach for the Stars

I came across this story as it was trending on Yahoo!. I clicked the link and was brought to an article on the Huffington Post entitled, "Julia Hurley, Republican, Says Hooters Experience Helped Launch Political Career." I read the story while intrigued to see what skills this Tennessee republican could have learned, but instead I came away with this quote from Julia Hurley:

"I know that without that time in my life I would not be as strong-willed and eager to become successful."

Since we live in the age of instant gratification, the attention span of our youth has suffered so let's do some quick damage control and clear up what Julia Hurley is actually saying in this quote.

She is saying that the soul crushing daily grind of making a living dressed as an airhead and delivering food, as a cover for a walking peep show, lit a fire inside her to work her way out of such a lifestyle.

Little girls out there, please understand that Hookers... I mean Hooters (is that really even a better name?) is not the path to success that these writers are crafting these headlines into.

Julia Hurley is much like a super hero forged into politics by a traumatic experience or an artist who is fueled by pain.

I can't write this in the third person... I just can't. To do so would make me feel like a douche big enough to accommodate Madonna. My articles are a change of pace from what you can expect anywhere else. M...  View profile
