Julian's is a warm, eclectic neighborhood bistro that has something for everyone. Got kids? No problem. While Julian's doesn't bring out the crayons and paper placemats, its loud environment is decidedly kid friendly. Aren't crazy about eating with kids? No problem. Julian's loud dining room means you'll hear conversations around you, but won't feel like you're at McDonald's. Or you can choose to dine al fresco, weather permitting and if you can get one of the popular outdoor tables. And the people watching at Julian's can't be beat because of the range of customers.
The menu is seasonal, and changes according to the chef's whims. Julian's specials are hand written on the chalk board and worth walking up to study. Prices vary, but for the quality of food you'll get, are always worth it. For a full meal, expect to pay an average of $10-20 per person for brunch or lunch, and $15-25 for dinner, not including drinks. The Julian's menu has something for everyone, be it down home food (a la okra and sweet potato fries) or Asian fusion with a twist (try the tempura fried yellow fin tuna). Because of its crunchy background, plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices are available (vegan manicotti, caramelized shallot hummus wrap, or four cheese naan).
The Julian's menu is broken into "Munch," "Light Fare," and "Entrees" categories and diners are encouraged to pick and choose from each. Ask the server what his or her favorite of the night is. It might not have been something you'd have thought of on your own (prosciutto-wrapped pumpkin sounds odd, doesn't it), but it is guaranteed to be fantastic.
Save room for dessert, and try an adult beverage while you are there. Julian's has a great selection of both wine and beer, by the glass or bottle, bottle or draft. If you are looking for Miller, you are in the wrong place. Additionally, the funky martinis and mixed drinks are superb. The Julian's desserts are mouth-watering, change frequently, and live up to their descriptions.
Julian's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, and is located at 318 Broadway in Providence, RI. Reservations are only accepted for parties of six or more. Call (401) 861-1770 or check out the restaurant Web site at www.juliansprovidence.com for more information. Easy on-street parking is available near the restaurant.
