Last week I was given some tickets to see an advanced showing of Julie & Julia after auditioning for a Radio Ad Campaign. It was very exciting, and the tickets, wow that was the highlight of the experience. I had seen the previews and thought the movie was going to be excellent. Well I did not realize that the show was for Wednesday evening at seven, until Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. I was very upset and disappointed. I did not have a complete meltdown as the character Julie in the movie, but never the less it had an affect on my day.
The Julie & Julia Date Night or Date Day Shall I Say
My husband being as great as he is, like Julie & Julia's supportive husbands, purchased us tickets, found a baby sitter for our three kids, and after Jummah prayer Friday, we went to see the movie. That is right after our lunch at Marie Calendars, but ah, that's another story.
It was a fantastic date night, or date day. (Smile)
He is, "The butter to my bread, the breathe to my life." "So much butter, it stops your heart just to look at it." Many family and close friends would describe him like Julie & Julia's eggs. "Whisked into submission." (LOL) But I think he just loves me, a whole lot.
As we sat in the dark theater, goodies and soda by side, I pulled out my phone to take notes. I was making this an official work assignment. (LOL) I felt like an under cover journalist.
Laughing and crying, crying and laughing. The movie was fantastic. Now I am not a cook, am have just begun to get interested in cooking, and have consider taking a few classes. And at 32 years old, I often feel just like Julie and Julia did, lost and unsure of my purpose and myself. Walking around blind, without a guide.
Julie & Julia Scenes That Resonated With Me
One of the funniest scenes in the movie is when Julia Child was going to flip, what looked like an egg, in a frying pan. And she procrastinated a bit before doing so, and it made a bit of a mess, right there on live TV. And she says," It not as if anyone is in the room with you, you can just put it back together. " And she starts pressing it back with the spatula. I loved scenes like this because often times we forget that celebrities, and professionals that we admire are human and make mistakes just like us, they gain weight just like us, they cry just like us. The difference is they have personal trainers, and hair and make up people, and of course the just stop the camera rolling when real life is going on. Every one in the theater starting laughing so hard, it brought tears to our eyes, when Julia said she loved eating, and was good at it. " I'm growing right in front of you. " Through out the entire movie, she would say the truest, honest things that you could ever imagine. While Julie was seeking for herself, she too said some things that make you begin to think yourself.
While Julia Child is working on a book that took years to get published, Julie is publishing herself as an online blogger, each and every day, recipe by recipe.
"What do you think it means if you don't like your friends?"
While having lunch with friends who seemed to be so busy compared to Julie's life, she begins thinking about her own purpose. While Julie is using Julia Child's cook book as an inspiration to finding herself, and explore her cooking talents. She takes on the challenge of blogging about it and it's many ups and downs, over 500 recipes in 365 days. It begins to have an affect on her job and her marriage. What first started out as an adventure becomes hard work, and than a journey of a lifetime.
Julie & Julia Inspired Me As A Blogger
Being a blogger myself I would say that this movie was inspirational in more ways than one. Imagine, blogging about life and the things you truly enjoy, and along comes an editor who wants to publish it all in a book, and or even make a movie. How fantastic would that be? A lot of work I am sure no doubt, but an interesting experience never the less.
My philosophy is, make sure what you are doing is for a purpose. That way, you never feel like you have spending years on a project, just to have something to do. This really resonates with me, as I often find myself seeking to find a purpose in my life.
How about you, what is your purpose? Are you just going day after day, doing things for the sake of having something to do?
Bon Appetite!
