Every July fourth, family and friends come together all across this nation to celebrate the independence of good old U.S.A. BBQ's are smoking, and laughter is in the air as the children run through sprinklers and grownups reminisce about their own childhoods. A sweet and reputable way to end your celebration is to pay tribute and honor all those men that fought for our country's freedom. Red, white and blue desserts are inviting to the eye as well as the pallet. Just because something tastes delicious, does not mean that it was difficult to prepare or it is unhealthy. Below are four simple treats that can be primed up in no time.
1. Stars and Stripes Cupcakes.
Bake your cupcakes in advance in store bought star tins. You can use your own recipe, or buy a mix from your local supermarket. Have the kids decorate their own star cupcake during desert time with red, white and blue icing and sprinkles. They can make American flags, or draw stars to stay in the July 4th theme. This is a great way for the adults to still enjoy their peers company, as well as indulge in their sweet tooth while the kids continue to entertain themselves.
2. Red, White, and Blue Fruit Salad
Wash and remove the stems form strawberries, blueberries, blackberry's and raspberry's. Top individual clear cups with cool whip. The colors will reflect the July 4th celebration. This beautiful salad can be prepared ahead of time to maximize the time you spend with your guests.
3. All American Truffle
In a large glass bowl layer red and blue berries, cut up cubed pound cake, vanilla pudding and cool whip. Why make the cake? Cut up a store bought one the night before and layer it in the morning. This dessert is a winner! You may even choose to put sparklers on it as you present it to your company during the weekend of July fourth.
4. Fourth of July Snow Cones
Add red and blue syrups to shaved ice. The children will adore this treat because it is extremely refreshing on a hot summer day.
Regardless of the deserts you choose to serve for your guests, any table can be spiced up with red, white, and blue table clothes, balloons, and flags. As you're enjoying your berry's or indulging in your truffle, take a moment to remember the history of the July fourth holiday.
