July Fourth Activities in Your City 2011 Part III

Julie Wimmer
July fourth is a great celebration each year. The kids have recently been let out of school, the weather is usually warm and sunny so it is a great time to celebrate our country. Below, in no particular order, find some activities to do in a city near you or a a city you plan on visiting this summer.

2011 EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

July 2nd through Monday July 4th, the Regatta is in its 34th annual year. This event is free to go to. Enjoy Power boat races, huge sand sculptures, fireworks and so much more like musical entertainment, food galore, kids games and stunt shows.. This is a popular and wonderful event in Pittsburgh.

Benicia July Fourth Picnic in the Park
Oakland, California

Food, crafts, plenty of stuff for kids, live entertainment and more. Then, the grand finale, fireworks which start after 9pm.

Lincoln's Annual Fourth of July Celebration at Hooper Park
Lincoln, Montana (an hour or so outside of Helena)

This event starts July 2nd and ends July 4th. A parade, pets are welcome, camping allowed in certain areas, fireworks, children's activities and more.

Swing with the Red White and Blue
Urbandale, Iowa (15 minutes outside of Des Moines)

This event also starts on the 2nd and ends on the 4th with the 5th being a rain date. Each day has special activities like bands playing, dancing, skateboarding, carnivals, softball games and more plus the grand finale on the 4th with fireworks starting at 10pm.

Doo Dah Parade
Columbus, Ohio

This is a quirky, fun July 4th event. " Do you have a 'Cause'? If so, the Doo Dah Parade is the perfect place for you to be a Martyr - in a funny way. It's satirical humor at its worst best. All politicians must wear a funny hat. No full nudity. And, no water guns or balloons please. Can you believe it? Still after all of these years, there is still no entry fee or registration required! Why? Because the Money Martyrs are paying for your enjoyment." Donations can be made.
You can watch or march in this parade. A popular, local DJ is the grand Marshall.
Get there at 11, parade starts at 1pm and then spend the day listening to bands, enjoying some beer and food and supporting local merchants.
