Jumping Off the Treadmill

Donna Cavanagh
We run but wind up in the same place
The treadmill of life so the metaphor goes
We are no further than where we were yesterday
We still have the same issues, problems or woes

But even though life can be that treadmill
We get stronger with each step we take
We learn to handle life's ups and downs
We learn to survive the challenges and the heartache

There is no law to stay on the treadmill
You can get off whenever you desire
If you do not like the monotony that the treadmill doles out
Jump off and see what surprises transpire

The treadmill provides a training ground
We cannot get hurt staying in the same place
But when we take that step off and head down a real road
We find dreams and aspirations we long to embrace
