This is a poem I wrote in college. I was feeling burnt out and confused at the end of the four years. I just felt like I hadn't accomplished anything or that I hadn't put myself in any better position than I was in when I started. This poem also reminds me of how outspoken I was then without worrying about it.
Another day; another test to pass
Wondering if this piece of paper
Is worth the last four years of my life
Jumping through hoops
Another judge to impress
Trying to get into things I should...
And stay out of things I shouldn't
Climbing the corporate ladder
That never seems to end
While the corruption and capitalism
Stay right on my heels
The hoops don't ever bend or break...
They catch and remember every mistake.

Post a Comment:) another very good poem from you, I really did like this.
The poem was great, but your line, "This poem also reminds me of how outspoken I was then without worrying about it" also really spoke to me. I wonder why we censor ourselves more as we get older? I'm glad I'm not the only one that tends to do it. ;-)
very nice d:)
jumping through hoops...
Today, your comment "This poem also reminds me of how outspoken I was then without worrying about it." really strikes me. That's enough fuel for another poem right there!
But you did it!!!! I believe we jump through hoops for most of our life...sad but true! You were very together in college judging by your writing!
Love this...especially the ending....great poem Jill!
I really like this!!!!!
The tone reminds me of Maya Angelou's "Harlem Hopscotch," always jumping and trying to keep on keepin' on. Great job.
I love those last two lines! Wonderful work. :-)
