June 4th is Hug Your Cat Day

Everyone should celebrate this special day devoted to our feline companions. What could be more perfect than to celebrate the cat or kitten in your life by giving them a big, furry hug. Mark your calendars, June 4th is hug your cat day!

There could be a slight danger on hug your cat day. Most cats do not like being hugged. They let you know when they want to be loved. If they are not in the mood, keep your distance. The hug you try to give your lovable fur ball could result in a nip or scratch.

There are ways around the cat hugging dilemma. We know cats love tuna. In order to hug your cat to your heart's content, hold a can of tuna in one hand, snuggle your cat with your free arm. They will be focused on gulping down tuna bliss and will not care what you do.

What other ways are there to celebrate hug your cat day?

Run to the nearest pet supply store to buy cat toys. Stock up on all the toys you know they love. When you arrive home, surprise him or her with one or two. This is also an excellent way to sneak in another cat hug. If you want to splurge, go for the kitty gym you have been coveting. A small warning, this will not be an opportune moment to hug your cat.

Celebrate all day long by giving your fur baby a feast to remember. Give them their favorite cat food, also known as stinky goodness in the fur ball owners circle. Spend the extra few cents to buy the ultimate feast for cats, Fancy Feast. It is a delight to the discerning cat palate.

Does your cat like people food? Give them all their favorites throughout the day. The smorgasbord from heaven will give you plenty of opportunities for cat hugs all day long. I would suggest waiting until after they eat to do the actual hugging. I know from experience showering love and hugs on your cat while eating makes them cranky.

With these ideas you can be sure to make hug your cat day on June 4th into a successful one. If you don't have a cat or kitten, what are you waiting for? June is also adopt a cat month. Hurry to your local animal shelter and adopt one of the many cute kittens waiting for a loving home.

I've had two cats: one who loved to be held, and one who would sooner kill you as yet you touch him. I much preferred the former.

Great article Karen! I love the truth in this and find it comical, "There could be a slight danger on hug your cat day." As my old cat was quite the terror! I am more of a dog person I have to say but love the article! Keep on writing. :)
