June Brings Smile to Car Manufacturers

June has given the car manufacturers in India a reason to smile, after months of lowdown. Most car manufacturers have posted impressive sales figures, higher than their targets. The car buyers seem to be being lured into car showrooms by lower interest rates and easy credit disbursement.

The Indian car market leader Maruti Suzuki has posted a 23 percent jumps in growth compared to June last year. It has increased its sales three-fold increase in exports in June. As the sales went up, Maruti has been able to consolidate its No 1 position for the Indian car market. The total monthly sales touched 75,000 units in the domestic market and 13,336 units in the international and the exports touched13,336 units, The company's highest selling model A-star sold as Also in Europe was the biggest hit in overseas markets.

Talking about it, Chief Executive Officer of Sales and Marketing, Maruti Suzuki Mr. Mayank Pareek said "Domestic sales have picked up in the urban markets, primarily in the top 10 cities of the countries."

Hyundai Motors too has posted 18 percent growth in sales. Bulk of Hyundai's sales growth came from exports. Hyundai has recorded sales of 47,267 units. The senior vice president of sales and marketing, Hyundai Motors, Mr. Arvind Saxena said "We were able to maintain a strong position in the overseas marker in the first half of 2009 thanks to the scrapping incentives given in many European countries."

However, the third largest passenger car manufacturer Tata Motors reported a flat growth at 17,039 units. The Indica segment range grew by 19 percent after registering sales of 10,210 units, but sales of Indigo fell down by 26 percent to 3,522 units. The sale of SUVs Sumo and Safari was down by 11 percent after recording sales of only 3,302 units.

Meanwhile another homegrown major Mahindra & Mahindra saw a 56 percent growth as sales were driven by the newly introduced MUV Xylo, which has received order for 18,000 units till end of June.

Fiat India Automobiles showed four fold growth after increase in sales were recorded at 2,474 units as against the 550 units sold in the same month last year. Fiat has introduced Linea and Grande Punto in India recently.

Another car major Honda Siel Cars India, a subsidiary of Honda Motors were up by 6.5 percent at 5.039 units. Honda Jazz accounted for sales of 2,032 units, closely following its flagship model City which sold 2,351 units. Honda expects Jazz to maintain the momentum over the remaining part o fthe year considering that it is priced at Rs 7 lakh and above.
