Juneteenth Celebration in Denver

Celebreate the colors of soul in Denver - that's the enticing invitation to all Coloradoans for this year's Juneteenth celebration. All people are welcome to join Denver's most diverse and cultural neighborhood, Five Points/Curtis Park as it hosts the city's Juneteenth festivities. Denver's African-American community is organizing this annual event to celebrate and share its heritage with local residents and area communities.

The 2006 event will feature over 30 afro-centric vendors, caterers, restaurants and service providers. Included in the celebration will be designated areas for art, education, and entrepeneurship. A special series of health-related activities and workshops will be featured along with personal development workshops. A highlight of the festival will be a series of dedications for the grandparents and elders of this community which will take place in the Stiles African American Heritage Center. The festivities will offer food, fun and entertainment for the entire family.

The events of this celebration will take place over several days with the pinnacle activities occuring on Saturday June 17. The day will begin with a parade and continue to provide entertainment in various forms. The crowds will be delighted with spoken word, poetry and music including poet Ailey Pope and gospel vocalist Jarion Hamm. Located on 26th Avenue between Welton and Washington Streets, the entire celebration is dedicated to this year's theme, "Celebrate The CoLours of Soul". All net proceeds from this year's festival will be donated to benefit the Five Points-based arts and cultural organizations.
