Junior Prom Advice

In my opinion why go all out for a junior prom? If the child is a junior in high school then you still have one more year to go all out. Parents give in way too easily when it comes to their kids and prom. Parents should wait until their child is a senior to go all out. Your children can look their best without paying high prices on everything.

When I went to my junior prom my mom paid a total of $150 on everything. My date and I ate for free because his uncle worked for a nice restaurant and they let us eat free. The dress I bought cost like $100. My mom bought me some jewelry that cost $50 and my hair was done for free by my aunt, who is a beautician. If you budget your time and money then you will be able to pay a lot less and look like you paid a lot more.

Another thing I think is way overrated is a limousine. Why do parents insist that their children ride in a limo to prom? Some kids get picked on because their parents cannot afford to send them to prom in a limo. I know when I went to prom some of the kids got picked on because their clothes and ride were not up to standards. Most people do not even see what you come to prom in so why should it matter?

Also when it comes to eating, you can eat fancy for cheaper. I do understand that children want to eat a good more when it comes to prom. The only way to be able to do this though is if you know somebody in the food industry. If not then go for it, go all out on the meal. If your child can deal with something cheaper then go for it. Some of them do not care where they eat, as long as they eat.

When it comes to hair and other accessories girls spend more money on this than boys. Most people have someone in their family that does hair. If you do then go to them and let them do it for free or for 5 or 10 dollars. This would be a lot cheaper than going to a hairdresser to do it. Most hair places charge you about $50 or possibly more, depending on how you want your hair and how long it took, to do your hair for you. This is outrageous. Why pay that much? Do I cheaper with a family member.

Another thing I want to ask is why go all out on any prom? Why not wait until their wedding day? I know what most people are thinking now and that is what if my child never gets married? If you have a child that you think will never get married then go all out on their senior prom, not their junior prom.

All in all what I am trying to say here is that parents do go way overboard when it comes to a junior prom. The reason why you should not go overboard is because you still have another prom to go to. Also, some kids get to go to prom when they are freshmen and sophomores. If you spend a lot of money when you child first gets to go to prom then you will run out of money by the time your child graduates. Another thing is that most kids get spoiled doing this and if you do it one year then you will have to top it the next year. What I mean by top it is you will have to spend more money the next time they go to prom. Prom is a vicious cycle and parents, as well as students, should not fall victims to it.
