Junk E-Mail: Junk in My Junk

Max Faction
Do you read your junk mail?

I normally don't read any junk mail, but this was the title of a piece of junk mail that I received.

The title intrigued me, so I opened it up. It said that people are earning 10K per month as eBay sellers.

Who are these people, and what exactly are they selling? Personally, my home isn't stocked with such much wanted treasures.

I have yet to purchase valuable items for the sole purpose to list them on eBay. I always figured that you would have to have high dollar items to sell to be bringing in that kind of money. I also really wondered if there are people that make that much money on a consistent basis. It seemed like a come on just to get me to open the piece of mail.

When I opened up the e-mail, I should have known it was an ad, wanting to sell you a home business kit to get you on your way to become a Power Seller. Not that I think there is anything wrong with self-help material, but you honestly have to have products that are worth money, and will sell.

The cost to order this business kit is $49.95. To the right of the price it says, "Now you can own it for no charge." I did not click on the link to see how I could acquire this vast wealth of knowledge for absolutely nothing. There has to be a catch! I had the notion in the back of my head about contracting a virus, or some other problem from clicking on this link.

What turned out to sound so interesting, is nothing more that spam in my mail box. This e-mail is doing exactly what they are trying to get you interested in doing....putting something up for sale online, and waiting for someone to buy it.

The only difference is, one is a legitimate business to hawk your wares, (eBay), and and the other one is simply an intrusion into your privacy, as being another one of countless numbers of junk mail that mysteriously find their way to your e-mail address every day. I hope that nobody is taken for $49.95.

It really was kind of funny in a way. But, it was also cleverly presented in the junk mail. I don't know why anybody would hope that orders would just trickle in to buy this business kit. If they really knew how to make 10K per month on eBay, would they really be telling people? Even if they were selling the information on their found wealth, they would no doubt be able to make more on eBay, than sending out this spam. Maybe they really did have some good ideas for sellers, but it isn't rocket science to know that you have to sell tons of less expensive items, or a few real expensive things to bring in ten thousand dollars a month. And, take into consideration, the listing fees, and final selling fees, and pay pal fees....you will have to sell even more.

I sell on eBay, but at this point in time, I'm not selling expensive items. I started out with small, inexpensive items. I wanted to start out this way to keep my shipping charges down. Also, if I buy things to sell on eBay, I usually buy things that I like. That way if they don't sell, then I can enjoy them. I am always able to put them up for sale at a later date, or put them in the annual garage sale that I participate with some other people. I always try to sell them online first, before I consider them to be put in the garage sale, as I seem to get a higher selling price for them.

10K sure seems like an awful lot of money to me, to be made every month on eBay. Heck, I wasn't anywhere near selling that much at last year's garage sale, but I sure did have fun doing it. The weather was perfect, and we got a kick out of most of the people that came to the sale.

I know that there is an endless amount of money to be made on eBay, but like the old saying goes, "It's only worth as much as someone will pay you for it."

I'm sure there have been some people that have paid the $49.95, just to see what they could be doing on eBay, but how many people really have that much stuff to sell every month, or even that expensive of items? You have to spend money to make money, and this is one time that I really didn't think it would be in my favor to spend the money, to find out what this person was going to tell me.

I really do hope that nobody was taken for $49.95. With just plain studying at eBay, you can get a good feel for items that do sell, and you can learn a lot by reading the message boards. It takes a lot of time, but it won't cost almost fifty dollars to learn, and soak in tons of information at that site. It takes time to make money there, and I hope that someone didn't think that they will make that much, by sending someone else almost fifty dollars. One more thing that I wondered about was, how do you really know what kind of information that you would receive, if you did send in the money? It could have just been another scam. Maybe you might have ended up not getting anything at all for the money you spent.

I have learned that eBay is something that I have to devote a lot of time to, and I have to rely on myself to decide what to sell, not what some stranger wants to tell me, by me having to pay them to hear about it. Eventually, I may move on to bigger, and more expensive things to sell than what I am currently selling, but hopefully, I won't make any huge financial mistakes in picking out what I want to list.

The only get rich quick scheme that I can see, is the person that wants your $49.95. Be aware, and be safe.
