Junk Food Diet Ideas

Junk Food Diet is the term given to people who use low or zero calorie junk foods as a way of keeping their body's slim, according to an article in MSNBC today. Some people will sip diet-soda, chew on sugarless gum, or otherwise keep their mouths busy so that they don't think about eating any food that might make them fat.

I am one of those annoying people who slid into a small-sized pair of jeans before age 20, and still wear the same size today after giving birth to two children, and after watching my grandchildren enter the world. True, my situation seems a little different that the junk food dieters today, but it is not.

Back in high school along with every other girl around, I began to be nervous about my weight; in my mind, a small size of jeans wasn't good enough if I didn't look like a toothpick while standing in those jeans. I started smoking to avoid eating. Like the junk food dieters today, my initial diet foods consisted of diet soda, and something with zero calories to put into my mouth.

When the junk food diet gods decided to take my favorite tasting diet sweetener 'saccharine' off of the market one day, I was forced to sit down and reexamine my diet position. I didn't like the taste of the new diet foods, so I started eating whatever appealed to me, but the rules were that I could only eat if I was hungry; no eating by the hands on a clock.

When I became pregnant with my first child, I made a promise to myself that I would only put healthy food into her little body and started reading about ways to do this. By the time my second daughter was born, I was eating a healthy diet. There wasn't a choice; I had limited funds and couldn't afford to cook one meal for the girls, and a different meal for myself.

What I found about dieting the healthy way is that food tastes better if it doesn't come out of a fast food package first. Flavored water that starts by coming out of your own well is superior to anything on the market today. Grains are filling, and if you chew on the wheat kernels long enough you get gum. Growing a large garden is rewarding mentally, physically, and in flavor. I enjoyed this "back to the land" period in my life.

After a time, my situation changed, and I was forced to take my diet needs back to the grocery store to be filled. It was a full 20 years after I had first started dieting, and I still couldn't see the obvious; that the jeans still fit. I worried my way around buying groceries again after giving up the farm, reading labels here or counting calories there.

One day, a very wise friend sat me down, and explained life to me. Just because the media is making claims that everybody must diet, this is no reason for everybody to believe that these claims are true for everybody. Being active, along with eating a healthy mix of non-prepared foods is all that anybody really needs.

The joke is on me; I had spent years worrying about my diet for nothing. I am an active person who enjoys fruits, veggies, grains, and homemade baked goods. My jeans continued to fit over the years because this is what my body naturally wanted to eat. My downfall is chocolate on occasion, but what the heck; I work it off.

When I see the ads for today's 100 calorie packs, or expensive air filled special diet foods, I giggle at the commercials and think about slicing another piece of watermelon to watch the next movie with. There's no secret to dieting once you get rid of the foods that man wasn't designed to eat. Real food tastes better than man made food.
