Just Another Disposable Hero?

"Although politics have been fun lately the truth is we all need to get back to the issues at hand. The Marines, Soldiers, Airmen, and Seamen, are all under paid, most minimum wage paying jobs pay more than our troops get. They need better healthcare, eye and dental too. Our military equipment is out dated and updates are needed now. Also the American people need and universal health plan that also covers dental and eyes.

We as a people should not have to worry about going to a doctor for care. We should have coverage as soon as we get a job. There is no reason anyone should not be covered All companies that make millions should not pay for healthcare, or the Government should make a plan that covers everyone. We need to get our country out of debt and lover taxes on cigarettes, oil, and gas. The pay is not enough for anyone to live on. Minimum wage has to stay the same or go up. Prices must come down in order to give the US people a chance to live their lives We need to get our vetrans off the streets and in homes of their own. Celebrities should stop adopting kids from other countries and look right here at home. Yes, there are a lot of terrorists in the world buit we should stop looking to fight them over seas and start fighting them here at home. PeTA, ALF, ELF, to name a few terrorist groups here. We need to clean up America first. Lets finish in Iraq and get them back on their own two feet and then fix ourselves. "

These words, written by a US Marine, highlight not only the problems America faces but illustrate what should be a more common look at our society in general. Pundits from both sides of the isle, toy with laws, bills, earmarks, and so much that hardly effects your average citizen. They argue and debate, while we struggle to make ends meet. To simply get food on the table requires so much more than it should. Visits to the doctor are avoided in fear of costs, families are forced to decide to either get medicine for their children or dinner on the table. Throughout all of this, the pundits debate. Neither party is infallible, after all they are only human, but alas they seem to be losing whatever common ground they had with the people they are supposed to represent. Instead of answers we get poorly pacified half truths.

Our men and women are fighting a war with no end in sight, to come home to a society that seems to have forgotten them. It has recently come to light that the Veterans Association has neglected to actually serve those whom are at risk by supplying them with medications that have a proven link to psychopathic and suicidal behavior. In this article the term is used: "disposable heroes", as heart breaking as this is, there is a sullen truth in it. Our bravest are fighting and are coming home hurting both emotionally and physically with nowhere to turn. While the politicians are cutting back more and more help for them.

There are terrorists (a term this writer personally isn't too fond of) among us. They are known threats. Yet, we are abroad our forces weakening by the day, and the day will come where we will have to defend our home. Although there is much more than mentioned here, our country is falling apart at the seams. We are shown images on the television of celebrities and other's of their fame ilk, parading them in front of us. While the real news stories fall by the wayside much more often.

The real stores alas, are becoming merely a private pain of those scarred by this war. The families whose loved ones have died, or not come back fully. The spouses, whose partners who came back violent and in physical and emotional pain. or not at all deserve answers do they not? Instead we get the spoiled and reality lacking celebutarts. The men and women in uniform, their spouses, children, and the citizens are realizing our country is failing us.
