Just Because You Have a Penis Doesn't Mean You Can Decide to Cut Off Part of Your Son's Penis
Why Circumcising Isn't Daddy's Choice
The logic behind this sort of thinking is simple, daddy who is most likely circumcised himself is the most qualified for the fact that he is circumcised and has a penis. This thinking isn't very logical however, to say that daddy should make a decision about a minor operation that is done on the penis is like saying that mommy should be the one who decides whether or not she feels that her daughter should have surgery on her breast to change the size of them, if she doesn't feel that they are developed enough to her standards. One would argue that hygiene isn't involved in breast surgery and while this is true, it has been established that the idea that circumcision needs to be preformed and is necessary for a clean and healthy penis has undoubtedly been proven incorrect, simply information that is wrong and out of date. Therefore as you can see circumcising can not be justified with the fact of a cleaner penis because it is not a fact it is a myth, thus proving daddy shouldn't be making the decision.
All medical decisions aside there are both mommies and daddies who decided to circumcise their son for other reasons that are not health related. Daddy doesn't have a right to say that his son would need to look like him as an infant or when he is a little boy to look like other little boys. Besides that fact that leaving a newborn boy intact is becoming more common, so a little boy who is circumcised may be around other boys who are intact just as much as he may around little boys that are circumcised, an infant penis looks nothing like an adult size penis. There are numerous reasons why mommies and daddies decide to circumcise their newborn son, but that is not the point. Daddy can't be deciding something that is going to affect his son for the rest of his life for something as unimportant as the look of a penis.
Quite frankly it isn't mommy's choice either. There is no reason that daddy has more of a right to make decisions about his newborn son's penis because he has a penis and there is no reason that mommy has more of a right to make a decision about her newborn son's penis because she is not circumcised. Frankly both parents have the same amount of right to make this decision, or rather have the same amount of lack of right to make this decision. It can't be stressed enough to say that the decision about a penis should solely be made by the owner of the penis. When that newborn baby boy is an adult he can make the decision on his own and it is his choice to decide if he wants to be circumcised, not his mom's and not his dad's.

Post a CommentVery well presented, and yes I LOVE your title. =D
Why should decisions about a child's genital appearance or sex life have anything to do with his parents? Gross...
I would never want my parents to have the choice of whether or not I get to keep a valuable body part, and I look forward to the day when the courts treat female circ and male circ equally.
I think that it is the parents choice.
I like the title switch -- very in-your-face, which is a good thing. Great article. I'll be passing this one around to friends.
It's like saying a mom should decide if her infant daughter gets circumcised because she's the mom and she's female. Gender does not authorize someone to make an unethical decision about someone else's body.
I agree, the new title is catchier. This is one title change that I think will help your article.
When I read the title I was like "She has the biggest balls I have ever seen on a woman!" I think it is a catchier title, actually. We'll see. But this is great!! RESEARCH should be the basis for this decision, and heck, like someone said somewhere else, moms are intact so they know what it's like to be intact so their opinion matters too!!!
This was not the original title of the article, the sub-title was the original title.
