I don't know about your kids, but when my kids are sick the entire world stops. Now we aren't talking anything major here, just a simple cold or sore throat. The kind that just takes seven days to disappear on it's own.
When they walk in the door on the first day of their illness it starts with "Mom, I'm sick. Will you fix some soup for me?"
And my response in my June Cleaver voice, "You do sound like you might be coming down with something".
It's downhill from there.
As I'm cooking chicken soup they are in their room sorting through all the things they may need for the next 48 hours.
They will need a favorite blanket, several pillows, several boxes of Kleenex, a bell to ring for my attention in case I'm in the same room and a bull horn if I happen to be in another part of the house. While they are in recovery, it is my responsibility to prepare their favorite meals, (feed a cold). They usually take the time to scrawl a list of requests from the grocery and drug stores.
No matter what my plans are for that day or even that particular moment, I will be canceling them, because "I could be dying Mom."
After they were all healthy and back at school and work I came down with the same thing they had, except I had bronchitis.
They still came home from work and school and expect me to have the laundry done, dinner on the table and cookies in the cookie jar.
I'm better now. The only thing they noticed during my illness was that we ran out of milk. Don't worry about me kids, I'll be just fine.
