Just Ella: A Letter from Jed

Sara Rothberg
Based on the book "Just Ella" by Margaret Peterson Haddix. This is a letter from Jed who was her tutor when she was supposed to become a princess:

My dearest, sweetest Ella,

I cannot believe I have been away from you for so long. I truly regret that I am the eldest child and must fill my father's shoes at the palace.

It has been tiresome work and so I have started to write a story.

It is the first draft so please do not look at it too closely.

Once upon a time there was a poor girl in rags. Her name was Cinders-ella. Her father had passed a few years earlier and she was left with her evil step mother.

Cinders-ella knew she could not stay a servant to her step family and decided to go to the prince's royal ball. The prince was at once taken by her beauty and they were announced to be wed the following day. Yet, Cinders-ella was not happy and decided to free the prince to marry someone who loved him.

The people in the palace were angry at her and locked her up in the dungeon. Cinders-ella realized she only had one chance to get out and so she slaved for nights digging her way out of there.

She managed to escape and traveled through hard weather to reach her true love, her darling tutor. They worked together in his refugee camp and lived happily ever after...

Yes my dear, I am writing your life story. I can't wait until I can add the part about us getting married.

I count the days till my return.

Yours truly, Jed
