Just Go Ahead and Read This Office Space Review

That Would Be Great

The year 1999 was a pretty amazing year for movies, as far as I'm concerned: American Beauty, Magnolia, and The Matrix are all near the top of my list, with several other captivating titles close behind. But those are all fairly serious films. There is one movie that came out at the turn of the century that doesn't even begin to take itself seriously, and that movie is Office Space.

Office Space is relevant because it chronicles the all-too-common lives of bored office workers. Like so many of their kind, they are aggravated by the many middle managers redundantly ordering them around. They also jokingly plot about screwing the company out of money and making themselves rich. The movie separates itself from typical reality when they decide to follow through with their plan.

The characters are wildly vibrant, and some of them are completely unforgettable-Bill Lumbergh immediately comes to mind. The same goes for the many one-liners and rants. If you enjoy the show "The Office," chances are you'll love Office Space, and vice versa. Both are exceptionally creative and offer outrageous twists on the usually dull existence of the cubicle dweller.

Office Space started out with a pretty low score on IMDb, but it has been steadily rising! In many polls I've seen online, Office Space ranks solidly as a cult classic among audiences. The main character, Ron Livingston, went on to play a major role in Band of Brothers.

And now for perhaps the most important part of this review: there is a good chance you may not have seen Idiocracy, which is also by Mike Judge and in many ways similar to Office Space. Due to an unfortunately limited budget, it experienced a very quiet, limited release. The humor is a lot cruder than in Office Space, but if you can get into it the laughs can be even bigger. Luke Wilson is in it, too.
