Just for You, Mom

A Poem for Mother's Day

Jean Davis
I know I'm a big girl ,now, but sometimes my memory recalls times long gone.
Maybe with a wistfull thought creeping in when I think of Mom and home.
Time sure does change things a lot.I'm sure you know what I mean.
For one thing, you dont have to buy my clothes anymore.Nothing wrong with that scene.
Now let's get a little more serious. I think it's time we have this talk.
First, I thank you for taking care of me before I could even walk.
You tried to shield me from all things that might hurt me. That's usually what Moms do.
Well, sometimes I would have been hurt a lot less if I'd only listened to you.
Some things have to be learned the hard way, I guess, by stubbing our toe once in a while.
That way, hopefully we won't make the same mistake again when we are no longer a child.
Just look at me now, Mom, all grown up and tall.
I've outgrown all the measurements you made for me on the wall.
My hands sure don't fit the small handprints anymore, but this was all a part of God's plan.
I had to grow in wisdom and strength in case you need a helping hand.
Ther is no way I can repay you or even find the words to say how much you mean to me.
I'll just say,"I love you" and just how much; I hope one day God will let you see.
