"God Calling" Message Essay for August 6, 2010

God Calling this morning speaks about shutting yourself away for a time, spending time with the Lord, away from life's distractions and demands, away from the noise and the "brain clutter." I call it "brain clutter" - the stress, the hectic pace, day in and day out stuff that clutters our minds/brains until we're not resting like we should, we don't feel up to par, we're not performing up to par, and we're in a fog and stuck on a horrible merry go round that really isn't so merry, and doesn't seem to want to stop.

One of the things I love about my morning times away with the Lord is that I get the chance to clean up the clutter. Whether I spend time in prayer or praise, in Bible study, or a quick read in God Calling-or any inspirational devotional-and journaling, or even just walk alone with the Lord, and I'm "just" walking, my spirit is in communion with him. My clutter is being cleaned up and the "debris" purged, and my spirit is being refreshed and renewed.

Time away alone with the Lord is vital to a child of God in the world. Again, the song by Prince comes to mind. In particular, one line: "I never wanted to be your weekend lover..." That's the way it is with Jesus too. It's a daily thing!! Even if all I can snatch for myself today is 15 minutes to pray, to praise Him, to study my Bible or read my God Calling message...or, just be still and wait in His presence, every thought focused on Him, I'll take that 15 minutes and invest it in time with the Lord because ultimately, I'm the one who reaps the rewards for having done so.

*Isn't it funny how God works? I was eating a roll earlier and a little magpie with a crippled wing, and I think, eye problems, came hopping over and I got to feed him a few crumbs...a moment...
