Many cultures of the world share the belief in this unseen life force energy, which flows through, and connects all living things. It is believed that illness, stress, and disease are brought on by the interruption of the flow of this Life Force Energy, or when the amount of this energy is low in a person's body.
A Reiki practitioner provides help to a client by channeling this energy. The Ki pathways are opened; negative energies are broken up, and replaced with positive healing energy. The Reiki practitioner aids this process. Contrary to what many people believe, a Reiki practitioner does not take credit for the healing. They are aware that their position is merely that of a guide. They only guide the already existing energies and all healing that occurs is natural as a result of properly flowing Ki energy. A gifted Reiki practitioners hands become warm to hot during a session, as the flow of Ki passes through them.
Reiki is a fairly easy method of healing to learn, but true Reiki is not taught in the traditional sense. The ability to use Reiki is transferred to a student from a Reiki Master through a series of attunements. Another common misconception is that Reiki is not connected with Spiritual development. In point of fact, true Reiki is. The more spiritual the practitioner is, the greater their ability to use this energy is.
Search the Internet today and you will find countless "Reiki Masters" that have developed their own type of Reiki, have their own "secret symbols" and are willing to attune you for a hefty price. All of these things are not needed. Reiki, true Reiki, is the only Reiki that exists. Symbols are not needed; they were originally developed only for a means of focus, and have nothing to do with Reiki itself. True Reiki comes from the Life Force, the God consciousness that exists everywhere. It is not supernatural, but it is in fact the most natural energy that exists. Paying anyone hundreds of dollars to learn to use Reiki, to become attuned to Reiki, or to use Reiki for healing is nothing more that a scam.
Reiki is directed at the Mind, Body, and Spirit. This makes it very different from traditional allopathic medicine, which typically addresses the disease itself. Reiki is a Holistic medicine by its very nature.
Ki circulates through and around everything. It is believed that when something dies, the Ki energy departs and returns to the source. Ki is also the source from which emotion, thought, and Spiritual Life is drawn.
In China, Ki, or Chi as it is known there, has been studied for thousands of years, and Chinese culture places great importance on it. Ki is also used in the Martial Arts for mental development as well as physical training and power.
Reiki itself is not a religion, but it is a spiritually guided practice. Reiki Masters therefore recommend that practitioners and students live in accordance with certain ethical ideals, and do their best to promote peace, harmony, and compassion in the world.
