Just Relax Plax: Former Giants WR Burris Can't Catch a Break

J. R. Steele
Despite saying all of the right things and being supportive of their resident bad boy, the New York "Football" Giants finally decided to rid themselves of wide receiver Plaxico Burris. After months of speculation, the team decided that enough was enough and released the former star from his contract. Now a free agent, the talented wideout is free to sign with any team that wants him. Yeah, yeah, yeah... there's a little matter of his possible 3½-year prison sentence for that gun charge business, but heck. T.O. found a job in Buffalo. Maybe he can find an early taker whose willing to bet on some sort of community service plea bargain? What? It's possible!

In the meantime, Plaxico should just chillout, relax, and wait for the phone to ring. Don't worry about multiple moving violations and "unfriendly" conversation with the local Florida sheriff's department. Those things will take care of themselves in time. Just take that black, darker than night tint off of your vehicles, drive the speed limit and smile when they knock on the window. Life ain't all that bad. Nice house, nice cars, nice family... the Michigan State Men's Basketball team is reveling in a successful season making it to the NCAA Championship Game. Heck, Plax even won a recent grievance that forces the NYGs to pay him his $1 million roster bonus money despite not being on the team any longer.

Sometimes, not catching a break is simply life's way of telling you to appreciate some of the good things you take for granted. There are a lot of good things possible in Plaxico Burris' future. It is up to him if he decides to take advantage of the opportunities.

Yeah, but the only problem with that idea is that Bloomberg and the D.A. get more political traction for their anti-2nd Amendment crusade from Plaxico Burris' big name than from a nameless violent drug dealing street-level thug.

Thank you for your kind words. I agree that Mr. Burris probably deserved the benefit of better prosecutorial judgment. I'd think that NYC would 'manage' the available space in their prisons a bit better. Maybe giving Mr. Burris a shorter jail sentence would prevent the early parole of a violent crimes inmate for space reasons.
